As Pocket Legends continues to grow and expand, the Spacetime Studios Team also looks to keep the game’s content fresh and compelling. To that end, we will be revamping the level 1 to 10 Forest Haven campaign in the near future and we are giving you the chance to get involved!


Pocket Legends Design Contest - Create Fiery Weapons of DOOM!
The evil witch Silknight has captured Forest Haven’s sacred Orbs of Nature and corrupted them with her magic. She has bent the Orb’s energies to her will, channeling the essence of fire to create Legendary Fiery Weapons. Silknight and her minions brandish these weapons as they seek to enslave Alterra under their sway.

Slide into Witch Silknight’s slippers and create designs for up to three different Legendary Fiery Weapons that will strike fear into the hearts of any who would oppose Silknight or her followers. The winners of this contest will have their weapon design(s) turned into in-game items that are branded with their character names!

Three Legendary Fiery Weapons:
There are three different categories of weapons that can be designed, encompassing the typical weapon types:

Strength: swords, hammers, etc.
Dexterity: bows, crossbows, spikes, etc.
Intelligence: staves, wands, etc.


Design One, Two or All Three!
Create an original design for any of the above categories. A good submission will probably include both images and a written description. A submission should be appropriate for the category it is in – for example, please do not submit a design for a crossbow to the STR or INT categories. A crossbow would be a DEX weapon.

To enter, please post your design to the appropriate forum thread, between now and Wednesday, May 18th at 11:59 PM Central Time.


A good submission post will include:


Character Name:
Category: Which category is the weapon submission for? Str, Dex or Int? Please post to the correct thread.
Your Items Name:
Images of your design. What does the weapon look like?
Written description of the weapon. Tell us about it. Why does the evil witch Silknight and her henchmen value it above other weapons to do battle with their foes.


Prizes:
It is possible that one person could win all three grand prizes, since any one person can submit an entry for each category (Int weapon, Dex weapon and Str weapon).

Grand Prizes for each Category

100 platinum per category
Item created in game
Name of character included in the item description
The name of the character must comply with the Terms of Service.
Legendary item granted to a character of their choice on their account


6 Runners Up

50 Platinum to the best 6 runner’s up from any of the categories.



Deadline for Submissions – Wednesday, May 18th at 11:59 PM
The cut off time will be taken from the timestamp of the forum post of your entry.

Only one entry per person per category.
If you want to change your submission you can go to your earlier submission and edit the post to change to your new submission.

Judging
Entries will be judged by the Spacetime Studios Development Team. Equal weight will be applied to judging your visual design and your written descriptive component, so please spend time on both. You can include details about possible weapon procs or effects in your description. We’ll do our best to recreate those effects in game should you win.

I disagree, to some extent.

This guy freely admits that he based his weapon designs off standard weapons in an entirely different game and has had these for over a year, and is submitting them here. They are EPIC, don't get me wrong, and very kick***, but they are not PL weapons, not from PL, and for some reason I logically can't put my finger on this totally rubs me the wrong way.

It would be like one of us designing a weapon years ago for World of Warcraft, having ages to work on it, and submitting it in PL years later...where the rest of us have a week to work on something. Nothing technically wrong with it, or illegal, but man it just seems like it puts people here at a disadvantage and is kind of lame in spirit.

Apologize for being blunt, but I bet this isn't what STS/Samhayne envisioned when they came up with this very cool contest, in my opinion (for whatever that is worth). The next thing you know, word will get out to internetz ppl/graphic designers for other games or players of other games and we'll get more submissions like this.

Again...they are awesome and I wish I had that skill...but even if I did, and I had done these a long time ago, i wouldn't submit 'em...but thats just me.

thank you !! im going with the vyx skull theme for my last submission too. the blade for the sword is actually a disfigured version of the skull but it worked out great! took me longer than the staff :/

lol go for it! and im not a graphic designer, and i cant use photoshop. ive never used the warp tool lol. i only ever use the pen tool, live paint bucket, and the paint brush tool (Ai CS5)

I wish i had finished school (in my case college) so i had more time! Finding my self doing this competition instead of the work im supposed to be doing, which is ridiculous as i am on my final major project in my course, and if i fail that im screwed!

Description: Everything was created by me. The item shoots balls of fire out of Satan's toilet.

Background: The witch, Silknight, had been on her annual trip to greet Satan in the deathly pits of hell. Unfortunately, the spicy bean burrito that she had just eaten didn't quite agree with her digestive system. She pleadingly asked Satan if she could use his restroom, and he finally gave in, as he could see her face beginning to turn bright red. Silknight ran into the bathroom, slamming the door behind her. After she did her business, she took a closer look at the toilet she had just used. She could see the massive amount of power that it held, and at once, decided that she HAD to have it. So, she teleported the toilet back to Forest Haven. Silknight then began the process of forming the toilet into a weapon. She sent it to the forgeries to be crafted into a staff. It returned, bursting with flames of destruction, but Silknight needed more power. She gathered the mighty Orbs of Nature, and placed each, one by one, into the toilet... and then she flushed... Balls of fire immediately began shooting into the sky, and The Staff of Satan's Toilet became active!

Description: A fire hydrant (literally, a hydrant that pumps fire) that is used as a 2-h war hammer.

Background: Silknight's treasury was caught a-water! The blue liquid was billowing out of control! In the distance, Silknight could hear the watertruck's sirens, as they neared the bubbling rampage. Silknight was going mad thinking about all of her precious jewels and gold that she had stored in her keep being drowned. The watermen hurriedly rushed from their truck and hooked their fire hose to the hydrant. Instantly, fire began spewing forth from the nozzle, putting out the nearest droplets of water. After spraying the flames across the soggy treasury for some time, all of the water was finally burned out, and thanks to the trusty hydrant, her fortune was saved. To honor this hydrant, she forged it into a massive war hammer, and used it to forever fend off more watery disasters, just like the close encounter she had witnessed once before.

(Again, sorry about the story. I'm not quite sure if we are supposed to stay thoroughly on-topic. It can always be changed if need be.)

Sorry, but this obviously looks like it was taken from another design. It takes a professional computer designer to make such details for a sword. The design is obviously taken from elsewhere. The Devs will not risk putting a sword in a game when later they find out it existed in another game/cartoon/comic/etc. Its against the law.

I don't see why not, as they are mainly just used to add texture, colors, or effects. The idea of the weapon would have still been created by you.

Background:
Here lies the infamous and elusive Forest Fire Bow of Doom. The evil witch Silknight, residing in the depths of Forest Haven, had the ultimate goal of imparting her evil will upon all of Alterra. In order to accomplish this twisted feat she and her minions captured Forest Haven’s sacred Orbs of Nature and corrupted them with her magic.

Calling upon her favorite element Fire, she bent and twisted the Fire orb's energies around the very fabric of the forest around her. It's once lush vegetation was transformed into something very different, very powerful, and very evil. She wrapped the flaming energy around a once seemingly innocuous wooden forest bow. The weapon, once green with life, aged almost immediately and began to turn brown and wither as the corruption moved from the center region to its upper and lower limbs. As the twisted energy approached the tips a roaring fire sprang fourth and charred the tips of the bow in a fiery erruption. Thus, the evil Silknight's Forest Fire Bow of Doom was born. It is a constant reminder to those who oppose her will that she possesses the power to twist and corrupt the beautiful, living faction of Alterra into something infinitely more terrible.

Inspiration:
The inspiration for this came from the idea of Silknight twisting the living into a fiery oblivion, as can be seen from the transition of the bow from its lush handle to its charred, flaming tips. The flaming string was added to my concept art for effect but seeing as bows in PL do not contain strings, I believe the flames on each end will suffice.

The idea for the twisted wood and vines with leaves came from the little squares that appear on the level selection screen for Forest Haven, showing leafy twisted vines. Also, I appreciate weapons whose design calls upon the level/region in which they are acquired (such as the rocky looking new gear from sandstone caves) so I tried to incorporate the forest into my design.

Potential Procs:
Some sort of root looking mass would occasionally wrap the target, similar to thorn root, however the coloring of this would make it appear as though on fire. I propose either a non-snaring fire damage-over-time or a short snaring effect (my favorite of the two) similar to thorn root/wall, freeze procs from launchers, etc. as I like both ideas but believe that both may be overpowered.

Description Idea:
Some type of allusion to the famed Smokey the Bear ads of old that read "Only you can prevent forest fires!"

I figured everyone and their brother would be going after using fire directly, I wanted to put a bit of a twist on it, using fire indirectly to enhance weapons. I also made it so that Silknight, from her perspective, wasn't the bad guy, giving the character a deeper motivation than being evil for evil's sake. She's just looking out for her fallen, it's the loot farmers who are the bad guys in her eyes. She's Moby Dick, taking out Captain Ahab.

Also, I really want a low level crossbow, so...yeah. Hehe.

Ohh now I see where you're coming from with the smaller amounts of fire. I also like how you put yourself in her shoes and thought of how she would. Of course she wouldn't view herself as bad, she thinks that what she's doing is right.

I noticed that too...maybe because the str/dex have so many different weapon type possibilities that spring to mind, and we felt that Int weapons are pretty much confined to staffs and wands subconsciously? Dunno

str and dex weapons tend to be more popular and easier to work with lol. doing my staff, i was dealing with a creative block half the time. the sword and bow came more naturally.

This game tends to be predominantly male players from what I have gathered and not all guys are man enough to wear a dress (call it a robe if it makes you feel better ;)). I think you are probably right, but I know for me it is not that I have to wear a robe, but that the elf is obviously female :D

hehe i must be pretty confident since my mage's been my main since day one. DL date was 2 weeks into PL's release ;)
