Since there are no merchanting guides out there, I decided to make a little guide to help players who want to make gold without hours of tedious farming.

What is merchanting you ask? Merchanting is buying itens at a low price and selling them at a high price. Basically, it is like buying and selling stocks.

What do I need to be a merchanter? Well, of course you will need money, and the more you have, the easier it is to make money. Patience is also a good thing to have.

How do I start? First, find some items that are populare and change in price easily. Then moniter the prices. Find the average price of each item, and make note of that. When the price goes below average, buy one or two, depending on your funds, then wait for the price to go back up. when it is above average, sell it in cs or advertise it in balefort castle.

Tips? Sometimes, people sell outside of cs for a lot less, so make sure you always watch the chatbox for good deals. Also, when you see an item for an unbelievable price, check the level. Many times, I accidently buy a level 53 because the price was super low and I wanted to buy it before it dissapears.

Warning: This method of making gold is very risky. Sometimes, if you buy an item for what seems to be a low price, it is acually dropping in value because more are being found or they are not wanted by the public. Also, you can be undercutted, which means someone sells the same item for a little less than you do.

Thanks for reading my guide! Please comment and leave your suggestions below :)

I'm sure many people don't have knowledge about merchanting before this game.
As for me, I just farmed all my gold easily in other games.
So yes, 5/5 guide!

I dabble in this and I thought I'd put in my input. It really takes experience watching item supply and demand to know what good prices are. Start with a few items you know about and build your knowledge from there. Paying attention to the levels is important especially at lower levels because a lvl 33 item might be worth 50,000 more than the lvl35 version because it's A) more rare and B) desired by all those level 33 players who want the weapon sooner.

Don't scam people. I believe you will reap rewards when dealing honestly in sales. People might return to deal with you again, or recommend you to friends. That's not to say you can't capitalize on opportunities when somebody doesn't know the value of what they have and they wish to sell it really cheap.

Watch the CS long enough to see trends. I got burned when I saw some Apep Sunkiller staffs for 80K and some for 40K. I bought the 40K ones. I guess I got tricked up by that falling price issue the OP mentions, because pretty soons, all Apep staffs were selling for less than 20K. Ouch. Now, if you want to stick your neck out, you might say, heck, I'll just buy up that supply cheap and sell them for 80K when the price goes up. That's certainly a possible outcome, just a gamble and it's your money.

Great guide. From a pure financial point of view though, trading based on price trends or historical averages (called technical analysis in finance) , at least in real life, has never made people money. (not a single practitioner has succeeded). Assets are priced based on supply and demand and valued differently, Its probably more scientific to trade based on events which impact these variables (called market timing in finance, few have actually succeeded with this strategy). This is all assuming that markets are completely not efficient.

or you'll just have to search around the cs looking for her items hehh

Zaltiar
08-07-2011, 04:37 PM
Haha, why so? Do solo plasma runs! U get around 2k and its about 3-5 min each run, which is like 12k in 30 mins!. And start the run with 0 health and mana pots, its easy to farm them. ;)

Zaltiar

Dude lol, just solo plasma till, the first intersection. Well I guess its preferences :), I solo the map on my 56 pure dex bird with 0 health and mana potions, I get 25/25 by the time I get to the first room lol

I get what ur sayin zalt but merchanting makes big chunks of cash in minutes. Pp takes so long to make even 10k. And it gets so boring and repetitive

CowboyJim
08-08-2011, 07:11 AM
I usually just stumble across good deals in CS while searching for things I need. I bought a Custom Leathers recipe for 16k when the lowest price was over 300k. I didn't resell it because I needed it to craft my set but I saved myself 300k....woot!! And I agree with AYC200 about prices in Balefort not in CS....there are a lot of people willing to sell cheaper than CS prices if you have the patience.....but merchanting as a profession by itself is not worth the time..IMO..it is better to farm something and merchant when you're resting from farming....lol. I alternate farming areas to prevent maximum boredom. Sometimes I farm SCC for recipes, etc. sometimes I farm Pappy Scalefield and hoochmeisters fro swamp gear. etc., etc.....

lol i think it's wrong to tell ppl to only sell pinks or popular items... man, if you have it in your inventory and u dont want/need it, sell it!

Run through Forest Haven and throw up some quick ads, you'll be surprised what items ppl want. Even if you think it's trash, there's new players, low lvl players, high level players that want certain items. Even if it's not the most popular or rare item. Try your hand, just have patience. Trust me.

Thanks for the guide btw! :P
