There have been a few threads with people wanting this same thing. I wouldn't mind a hat to show maybe a little bit more difference between everyone in towne.

We love the hats idea. Everything always comes down to performance issues. Right now we are maxing out the processors, especially on the 3G devices. When we come out with optimizations (1.3) that will also give us alot more flexibility with customizations. So hats are very likely at some point!
