View Full Version : Armor Formula?

Me, Otukura, Finneri, and HerWolf were testing the other day, trying to find the formula for how much 1 Armor Reduces at level 20.
I was told at Level 55, 1 Armor Reduces 3 Damage. We tested at level 20, and here were our results, out of a small sample size (35 or so hits out of each armor #)

Our weapon we used were a JT Avian Talon (48-53 Base Damage)

At 42 Armor (Expert Reinforced Leather, Fine Golden Band of Technique [5 plat ring], JT Avian Talon, Sniper's Avian Wing), the Talon did 5-7 Damage against me.

At 12 Armor, the Talon did 24-26 Damage against me.

At 32 Armor, the Talon did 11-13 Damage against me.

Is there any correlation? I don't see it. Could anybody help me with this?

--TYSM Noobmigo

P.S.

My theories:
I. The number of damage armor reduces is scaled based on how much armor you have, by PERCENTAGE. That is why my 42 armor, only reduced the damage of the weapon by about 42-47 Damage instead of 126 or something Damage. If that makes sense.
II. The number of damage armor reduce is scaled based on what your level is.
III. There is some sort of cap to the percentage of damage armor can absorb.

Basically, I view it as a percentage.

SO PLEASE HALP! [Me figure out what the formula would be, if there even is one.]

This is strictly PvP-only right?

This applies to PvE too, I think. Unless you've figured it out already.

In PvE, 1 point of armor reduces 1 damage - PvP is completely different. What was the total damage with all those equips on (Expert Reinforced Leather, Fine Golden Band of Technique [5 plat ring], JT Avian Talon, Sniper's Avian Wing)?

That was my equips. Finneri was the one attacking me and recording the damage. His base damage was 48-53, if that's what you mean.

PvP also has an added 10 percent reduction damage from Asommers.

it might also be a really weird decimal that changes because the damage is random within a damage range. The damage range might also have hidden decimals within it as well. maybe if you keep testing we will know. That will shed some light on how useful armor is!

So all it is is armor + 10% reduction rate?

So the damage is reduced by 10% and then it factors in armor...??

I thought that was just endgame?

I never PM'd you all the data.. been lazy. Busy tonight(friends), busy today(SL), maybe tomorrow?

Idc, as long as I get it figured out within the week.

Base damage to me means the damage of a character without anything equipped...if his overall damage was 48-53 (average 51), then:

If 42 armor -> Theoretical 9 damage; Actual 6 damage
30 armor -> Theoretical 21 damage; Actual 12 damage
12 armor -> Theoretical 39 damage; Actual 25 damage

I recall Asommers saying that PvP has a 10% damage reduction as well, probably after armor. Can you double check your friend's total damage, because the numbers aren't quite flowing well together with the 10% damage reduction in PvP.

Total DMG = Base DMG, right? He's using the same equips as me, just slightly more armor ring, 10 plat Golden Band, Artisan/Expert Leather, and Sniper's Avian Wing and Talon.

So he's also 48-53.

EDIT: Fixed

EDIT EDIT: WE also did this with a snowball launcher, pink, but Otukura has that data.

WF SB launcher always had and average of 68(63-73 damage)

Goes Armor--Acutal--Blocks

42 17 47
35 20 48
32 22 46
30 21 45

The data ALMOST matches. Apparently, the extra reduction is larger than 10%.

51 - 42 = 9 *10% = .9. 9 - .9 = 8.1 Theoretical Damage. 6 Actual damage. 7 was max, 11 was max with crit.
51 - 32 = 19 *10% = 1.9. 19 - 1.9 = 17.1 Theoretical Damage. Actual Damage was 12, with 13 as max.
51 - 12 = 39 *10% = 3.9. 39 - 3.9 = 35.1 Theoretical Damage. Actual Damage was 25, with 26 as max.

Don't forget that's there's a minimum balance of damage done in PvP!

Could you reword that? I don't get what you mean by that.

Sorry, I should have made it clearer. I notice that when there the max damage of an item is lower than the defense of the PvP target, the result isn't zero damage, it's 7 or 8 unbuffed, 10 or 11 buffed, and possibly 4 or 5 debuffed. Or at least that's what I got using talons. Not exactly sure why, but it might factor into the calculations.

Yeah, that was one of my theories, I think, just a cap to exactly how much and what percentage of damage the armor can decrease.
