hey, they have this in WoW and its really popular.
if you purchase special items for example a tshirt or a mousepad or a stuffed pocket legend animal you receive a code and with thos code you can unlock a special vanity item in-game. this woud encourage more players to purchase from th store, exaclty the same with the name reservation, 90% of the players including me just did it because of the shield.
