Can someone give me a tutorial for the overclockwidget app? I'm new to android, bought my lg p970 last month, rooted my phone just today. I adjust the min and max numbers, yet the number on the widget still says 1000.

Try asking this question on XDA instead. You'll be better served there.
Previously I used the app, CPU Tuner by Vogtp. I simply chose the various profile for my phone and it changed/scaled the processor to that profile. Simple and easy. Not too sure with the app you mentioned.

Does the kernel you flashed have overclock profiles? Also i use setCPU and also cyanogenmod also has both overclocked kernels and settings for overclocking. Hope this helps but you really should ask in other forums for this info.
