We have enabled the forum Reputation Feature.

This allows posters to a means to thank other users for their posts. As a user receives thanks, in the form of reputation points, the green bar under their name will advance.

You use the Reputation feature by clicking on the small Thumbs-Up button next to the Report Post button.

431

When you click on the Thumbs-Up Reputation button on someone else's post, it will bring up a pop up where you can approve or disapprove of the post and leave a note. When you approve, it grants some Reputation to that user. If you disapprove, it subtracts some reputation from that user.

432

Comments are only viewable by the Administration and by the poster receiving the Reputation. Abuse of the Reputation feature will result in action being taken on the posters forum and game account.

If you click on the Thumbs-Up Reputation button on one of your posts, you can see any notes left and what your current Reputation is.

433

You can also view the latest changes to your reputation from your user control panel (click "Settings" in the upper right from the full version of the forums) http://www.spacetimestudios.com/usercp.php

Please let us know what you think about this feature!

Is there anyway to see exactly how many points someone else has?

does anyone else see this being flammed and abused? Sorry, it's a good idea but I think it's going to lead to a lot of drama and more problems than benefits.

Remember only devs can see the responses. That way they can check and see if people are boosting aswell as doing other things.

This feature is interesting. I hope it can stay clean and fun, without abuse.

Well, aside from it becoming a popularity contest (most likely outcome), there are other outcomes possible. You could have people creating new accounts just to boost their own popularity. You could have friends thumbing up friends just to boost each other, etc.

It'd be also easy for somebody that wanted to contaminate it do so. All they have to do is to give everybody that starts a flame war a "thumbs up".

Either way, unless people are 100% honest, its unlikely to become something reliable.

As long as the devs aren't using it as a basis to reward people, I don't see the harm in it.

My first thought when I read this was "what a great idea & what a great tool to have so it can be seen who is actually helping on forums and who is just boosting post counts with nonsense posts" . But after reading everyones posts I remembered this is reality and how naive of me to think people could actually be honest :-/ All I know is I will use this in the proper manner and only give reputation points where they are deserved  and I hope for the sake of good ideas everywhere that everyone else can do the same......lol

I understand your fears of abuse. There are systems built in to prevent much of what you're concerned with. No, I won't list the parameters it uses to look for abuse or prevent it (because well, that sort of defeats the point, no?).

In hindsight, I wish that we'd enabled this feature a lot earlier in the lifecycle of the forums so long time positive members of the community would already have reputation built up, but hey, it is what it is.

Don't think it's working. My.. more serious posts don't get anything, but joke/off-topic ones do.

I think the system is a great idea. Players will be more thoughtful when it comes to posting. This system also can be a great indicator for the players who comunicate well with fellow players and are helpful.(And vise versa) I think the pros of the system will out weight the cons.

Hopefully from this new integrated system we will see a new guardian of alterra.

Meh I guess it can be easy to spot power-pointing.
Ps if we do get a power pointing generation, they don't even deserve a special name lol, more pointless than kill boosting or skipping levels :/

No offense, he's helpful & cute ( don't know why I'm profouding my love for him) & all, but I doubt it. He usually post to sell/buy things (no rudeness intended) , but he's a top fellow. Now, maybe if we get this feature in game... Then, just, maybe. He'd beat Sam's abuse of the system. Kinda sad, considering he's a dev & helped in creating it. :( Not a competition, anyway. Just, whoever posts something helpful. It's for being helpful, not being known.

Edit: Les, look now. I approved your post. Take another gander .

Lol. Only you can see it, & admins. Well, the comments. Did you not read the first post in this thread?;)

Also, I tried to see if I could "rep" you, again. But, I have to spread some more reputation around, before I can rep you again. Kinda weird. Anyway, yeah. Guess you got to be nice, & spread the love. Obviously, no one can be extremely helpful, & you just want to show them how helpful they are. :o

I'm thinking 1 bar is 500 points.
Sam has 11 bars.
He has 5002 points.
The 11 subtract the 1 given at start is 10.
5000/10 is 500, so every 500 reputation points add one bar.
