Question about PL and iPhone.

Well I am planning on getting the iPhone 4 in a couple of weeks and att changed their data plan to 2gb being the max (no more unlimited). my question is to the iphone users, has anyone played this game on 3g n a constant basis? how much data does this game drain you in an average?

I'll have to get futumsh to check me on the math, but I think it goes like this:

We push a max of ~1k/second per player. So a minute's play = ~60k. An hour = ~3600k, or ~3.6megs. 1 month of hour-a-day play = ~108000K, or ~108 megs.

So if you played PL 5 hours a day for an entire month, you would consume maybe half a gig.

Please caveat this by understanding that I am not the tech guy, asommers or futumsh would be much better suited to guestimate for me.

Does anyone else have some actual numbers?

It probably doesn't use much. Being an iPod player, I can't say for sure, but I'm pretty sure there is a 'meter' in the phone that shows how much data you have used. Reset this, and play for say, 20 minutes then look at it.. Divide by 20 to find data used per minute. Can anyone with an iPhone do this? I'm considering getting the 4g and am curious as well.

2Gigs in a month is a lot of data, the only thing you will do to eat this up is audio/video streaming.

and even then mostly video.
think about it.

this game works fine on edge, which is a max of 60kb/s if your lucky. i believe it uses less than that. a lot less 1-5k/s sounds fair.

anyhow, this game is a time consumer. break it down even further.
where do you have the free time to play this.
if your at work, WORK.
if your at home, WIFI
if your in the doctors office, PLAY
i mean, you probably truly spend 5-10 hours a month max playing this game on 3g vs wifi.

that is an avg of 7.5X60X60X2 54Megs
which is 1/40th of your bandwidth limit.

streaming audio and streaming video was their main goal to block this game.

also if you want to limit data, stay out of town when on 3G
town is probably the worst.
30 people telling eachother where they are, and what they are doing.
thats 1k/s per person.
even if its .5k/s/person
thats 15k/s
and even then how much time do you spend in town?
(this is a theory, and enemy location could be just as consumptive) (is consumptive a word)

sorry for the rant, but unless your job is something you can video game all night, you have no problem.

if you have the summer off, and you have an iphone, you have wifi. or your neighbor does.

AUDIO is the demise of 2gigs.
audio eats about .4gigs at .5 hours a month.
so 2 hours a day, will approach your limit.


after all that jaz.
this game works fine at my work, which is in a metal incased room, and i get around 7k on speed test, avg. which means i truly believe its speed is less than that.

if anyone has an iphone 1st gen. they should shut edge off, and see how it does on gprs. lol

im running on a 3gs iphone.
i did off my 3G data and used gprs to play for sometime.
as 3G burns the phone really fast. IMO

the game is quite stable on gprs(: 2thumbs up i must say.
oh btw, Singapore offers 12gb data bundle to any iphone signup regardless of telco

I did a test last night. Cleared my data settings and played PL for exactly an hour, mainly farming. Here is my data usage..

Sent: 4.1 mb
Received: 5.9 mb

I was playing over 3g. Assuming you are billed for sent and received data, thats about 10mb of data per hour you play. This may differ if you are in town, as there are more non server objects running around.
