Blast shot points

Im just curious here, the damage of blast shot is 8-60

do you need to put all 5 points into for it to do the maximum damage? what does the points actually do? i think it increase the aoe range

can someone please confirm this?

Yes it increases the range for each point in addition to increasing the damage.
