I'm going to be travelling to Eastern Europe sometime soon. Will the game still be playable, or will I be in lag-hell?
(I'm tempted to play on the airplane's wifi.)

Hopefully it's related, but when I went to Europe earlier this year, London and Paris, surprisingly the ping was better than where I am originally from, Sydney.
Where exactly in East Europe though?

It would depend on your connection, you can access any game from anywhere unless there is a geo-IP ban

El, what's your ping in Sydney? Mine is usually around 200-300

300-500 usually on 3G, on wifi I play with 250-400.
250 is rare though, just a small spike of green ping. Other than that, it's yellow :p

I'm getting a decent ping (~288), but it was painful to get to this point. The place I'm at in Eastern Europe only has Landline Ethernet. I'm running WinXP, so I can't use Connectify. And Android doesn't support AdHoc out of the box.
It's working now...
