Are the item levels vital to getting the bonus? In other words, if I have mega mage cowl and robe that are lvl 55 but the wand is 53, or 51, do I get the bonus? I suspect not, but wanna know before I buy the wand.

same applies to other sets. example, a lvl 21 onyx set is all lvl 21 onyx parts; you won't get bonus from mixing lvl 23 and 25 onyx pieces.

No, just the gear you're crafting needs to be level 55. A level 1 could craft it if he had the required stuff.

You get the bonus from all 21s? I know you don't from all 51s or 53s. Just 55s.

yeah... items all need to be 55 for the set bonus. Bonuses only occur on the highest level version of a given set.
