well with SL out and an update on the horizon for PL, im not sure at all what one to play. i wont have the time for both. what should i do?

It all dpds on u and ur taste.
Make your own decision...
There r more contents (pve/pvp maps, lvls, items, quests) in PL than SL
Games r similar in term of play but with a bit more cooperation interclass in SL.
