In practice you will never get all your spells to be at maximum. You would have to completely debuff the enemy armor. Furthermore, all your spells would have to hit at maximum, which is very improbable.

On that note, somewhat countering this is crit, which has been increased with the latest generation of gear.

I agree, I was simply responding in exactly the same way as he did in his screenshot. I know that real dmg can't be calculated as easy as I did.

About the crit, I can already tell you that it makes a HUGE difference as compared to Enchanted. I tested it with timed runs. This configuration clears specific levels faster then even my dex Mage in custom set. It might help that the staff is an AOE staff too. All in all, I'd say INT gear is currently the biggest improvement compared to 'older' 55 sets. I have to admit that I need to have 1 piece of str and dex gear to finish my sets on my other toons, so I might need to revise my opinion soon :)

Int gear offers vastly improved damage output over it's level 55 counterparts, without offering much of an increase in protection. By contrast, dex gear appears to have lost some of it's massive crit. This is different than when the Sewers came out. The mega mage sets then represented a modest increase in damage output, but significantly greater armor.

Unfortunately in PvE, this means that int mages will be holding aggro a lot more ... in gear that doesn't offer more protection that it's 55 counterparts.

Mm, not sure if I agree with that statement. It's just that about 20 armor more and a couple of dodge, is definitely way better protected as compared to its Lv 55 counterpart. I die way less often in this gear as compared to the enchanted set I used before. I'm talking about the wand/bracer here btw. If talking about the staff set, I'd agree. With staff you deal a huge amount of dmg without being better protected, but wand/bracer definitely improves survivability very noticeable IMO :)

I was referring strictly to the staff.

The wand, compared to the 55 set improves both damage and survivability.

Completely agree then :) I just don't understand why the staff doesn't give any better protection as compared to its lv55 counterpart. At first I thought they just forgot to update the armor stats or something. I'd usually switch to staff during boss fights, but I found myself just sticking with wand/bracer lately, since your chances of dying with a staff are fairly high.

Same-although i've been using purple tamers bow for bosses lately-seems to drop them 2x faster

Given that enemies here seem to hit A LOT harder, staff will be restricted to PvP, 4x users, and where there is a good bear.
