View Full Version : <No Guild> - for people who just want the Tier 3 guild hall

Hello all!
So Ellyidol and I were thinking that no person should be pressured into joining a guild if they don't want to, or joining one before they're fully sure it's the right one - just because they need access to the cheaper pots that you can buy in a tier 3 guild hall.
Also nobody should be subject to spam guild invites just because they don't have a guild name under their name.
That's why we just created <No Guild> - the non-guild that accepts everyone and has a tier 3 guild hall. There will be no guild drama, no guild requirements, no guild anything - because we don't consider it a guild. It's just there to give you access to the guild hall, and shield you from spam.
The only thing we ask of members is: don't send invites or private messages to guild members you're not already friends with. We don't want anybody to get spammed because they're in the guild - especially since people join this guild to escape spam. (Feel free to use guild chat instead - since guild chat can be turned off by those who just want quiet.) If anyone breaks this rule, please notify me or Noguild/Ellyidol in game or on forums and we will remove that member.
To be added, just message in game Noguild, Ellyidol, Kalielle or Clusterstorm (or any other of our alts), or send Ellyidol or me a private message in forums and we'll try to coordinate a time to add you. Everyone is welcome! :)

Why would you want a Tier 3 Guildhall?
The Tier 3 Guild Hall provides access to cheaper elixirs and potions. They are roughly 15% cheaper than the original prices.

Where is the Guild Hall? (Click on the Spoilers to show picture).
You first need to locate the town 'Balefort Castle'. Once arriving, you respawn in this spot:

You walk straight into the castle until you see the magic portal (where the Magic Mirror used to be):

Walk straight in and it will lead you to the guild hall! The first few steps will lead you to a few NPCs.
One of them offers cheaper elixirs:

While if you turn right and follow the path, you find an NPC selling cheaper potions:

I've seen this idea before with another guild except it was named "Guildless".

I like the idea! Except in SL I want AoA's giuld hall to not go to the tier with discount stims. So many people in SL just want a guild so they can buy stims and leave. Not even having those discount stims in there prevents that ;)

Good idea, but don't you think this won't effect STS income from guilds? If you just join this guild for free to get cheap stuff, that means less people will start new guilds. Which means less platinum spent, which means less money for income. I think it is a great idea, but what happens when there's like 1000 members. That's a lot of platinum loss for STS IMO.

I think this is a great idea!
Currently I am guild-less, but I would like to get the cheaper pots and elixirs until I am hopefully accepted into a guild I am currently trying to get in to.
And of course, it is considered quite rude to temporarily join a guild JUST for the cheaper pots and elixirs.
But now there is a guild just for this!
I'll contact one of you guys in game =]

Hey guys, thanks very much for the warm wishes.
The bad news is that this project isn't as successful as Kal and I saw it to be (hopefully not yet). We realized, after a couple of hours of trying to recruit members interested in a guild hall, that most newbie perceptions of a guild is different from ours.
We originally wanted to provide a free tier 3 guildhall and the protection from guild spams, as well as a semi-formed group of players. However, majority of newbies we've come across (I can't deny, some are trolls) see this as a 'guild spamming to recruit members' only. Sad, but we can't blame them either, I don't think they know any better.
Next, it's the actual maintenance of the guild. Due to the lack of an easier way to invite someone (you have to manually type in their name every time versus in SL, you can just click to invite), Kal and I have to literally be on our inviting characters to recruit new members, all the time. I have personally dedicated my phone hotkeys to this project, namely:
Phone Hotkeys (http://i365.photobucket.com/albums/oo96/bryantioliu/photo-1.png)
Maybe more help towards maintaining the guild would help, we don't know.
We also seem to have some 'competition' towards recruiting. Our main recruitment message is the first hotkey in my list and this forum page, however, Kal and I decided that to prevent the guild from creating a bad image for itself (guild spam invites are never good guilds, so they say), we decided to keep the recruitment message to a minimum.
On the plus side, we have been able to help quite a number of people already (hopefully). I also just invited Kingofhurtz into the guild, so we have a high level presence in it :p
Overall, we still want to pursue this because we think it will help. Understood, that the mass pooling of new players towards one guild is a minimal $ issue to STS, but I don't think we are actually robbing them of any revenue. From the few hours I've tried to recruit in FH/DF, I've come across some other guilds that also mass recruit new players, we just try to establish this guild into that segment so that players are guaranteed that this is a no commitment and no drama guild, purely just for the ease and benefits of having one.

It's minimal since it only applies to people who run out of pots and are willing to do pots for plat in a dungeon, or do gold for plat from tori then buy their pots, but who does that? haha
There's really nothing that can be done about the mass pooling of players towards certain guilds since that's a natural effect anyways, unless there is ever a guild player quantity cap.

Thank you for all the nice posts and encouragement! :) To those who posted that they want to join, if you haven't been added yet it's because you were not online when we were; I'll give it another try tonight. I wish guild invitations would be saved when people are offline, just like friend requests.
As for what effect the guild may have on plat purchases: you have to consider that people might actually spend more platinum for pots if they're cheaper, in which case the guild will increase revenue for STS.
Just think: if STS was against large guilds, do you think they would have encouraged them by having a guild leaderboard and having no member cap?
In any case, there are already guilds much larger than this one will probably ever be, and yet I see no discussion on their threads about how they're harming the game. So I really don't see why this was brought up as an issue in our thread at all.
