I've been in several uncharted runs where someone says something to the effect of -dont open tue chests til the end, it increasing rarity of drops!
Well IMO this is a myth! I've seen elite chests drop multiple greens then the boss also drop greens. Then I've seen the boss drop no greens then open an elite chest, after, to get one green out of five!!
Yes there will be the occasional ultra rare drop when you wait but I thinks it's just a coincidence.
From what I've seen the boss and chests are on separate rolls and have nothing to do with each other!
Thoughts??
Don't know for certain but I bet you're right. I think its all random, people just think it gives a better drop if you wait. Either way I don't really care, I've got the same chance as everyone in map :-).

Another thing is I've seen ppl wait to open the last three chest and after the boss dies they leave!! Chests still drop vanities, so why not open them on the way and get all that you've earned!?!?!

Popped one up in a low-level dungeon today soloing, opened when found and it dropped a very nice level 10 Special Type III Gallowtech Coat. :D I agree that it's most likely random, but people like reasons for things--like the people convinced if you "yell", "PINK!" right before the boss dies it increases your chances. Lol.

Haha! Yeah I said, "Pinks for all" right as guardian died and we all got orange! Lol. They Thought it was my fault! :)

Superstition.
I wouldn't mind otherwise, but this one wastes time if the chests are not opened while we're running past them.

Would love to see someone work out the drop rate.. Canan you have another job xD.. nah you would take up half of you life time to do this one :P
And it would most likely be all random haha.. and yes agree opening chests at certain times or shouting PINKKK would not increase the drop.. however it is alot of fun!! Ha esp when you get a PINKK in PL after shouting it :p

Everybody has their thing but not taking the chests is a bit much. That's just slapping all the devs, including Sam, in the face for all the hard work they did.

Used to skip chest before to save time while solo'n farm kills, until I realised that they drop Vanity in any map.. that got me to change my mind... like instantly haha now if im on Labs or Numa I will be running around opening any missed chests by players haha

A slap in the face? Not sure how that would be, because it doesn't effect anyone but the player who misses the vanity!! :)
Every run there's at least one saying this still! Haha oh well!
@bod - yeah I don't miss a chest in any map!!

Its not worth missing that kind of opportunity buddy! Even tho the chances are pretty much non-exsistant, if a Dev popped on and said "well while you where in Numa OL on this date at this time you didnt open a normal chest and missed you opportunity of a Visor (X-Ray) id be in tears.. literally hahaa

I also heard that if everyone leaves right before guardian dies a pink and a vanity will drop.... Kinda hard to test this one.
