It looks like it was a gift from the Devs for whatever it is the OP did. So I think because the OP bought a large amount of platinum, he must have contacted them about it and they mailed him the autographed pins as a thanks. Sam replied in the thread and said if there's a good enough reason and if you ask nicely, then may send you some.

And from the looks of it, the pins don't seem to be a discount thing, just something cool to have. And they look like they're actual pins that clip on the shirt or something. Of course though I could be wrong about all of this...
