Minimum iPod Touch needed?

There are multiple versions of the iPod touch and the price of each version varies dramatically. I don't want to spend over $200 on the latest and greatest so... What is the weakest, lowest version iPod Touch that I would need to play? What about the weakest/lowest version of iPhone? Keep in mind that this unit would ONLY be playing via WiFi connection. Thanks in advance!

Also, I used to play on a 1st or 2nd gen ipod, and it was not really up to the task of handling PL. Like the processor couldn't keep up, now that I use a 4g, I notice all the difference in the world and really enjoy playing alot more

I've got a new 4th gen touch that I use now, but I've got an 2nd gen that I use as a backup when the battery dies. Duped is right. PL gets kinda choppy with the old one and SL is darn near unplayable at times. Spend a little extra. Newer games will work better and the display is tons better.

Ipod 3 still works great imo for PL. SL is a little choppy. My daughter has ipod touch 4 and it is better for both.

I use the iTouch 2g, however there is a *lot* of lag, and I tend to crash during longer boss fights.
