Im really confused here
What's better to gain 20 damage instead 15% crit or 15% crit instead 20 damage.
For low lvl event mage :)

20 dmg better IMO, crit only chance.

IMO, damage because its a mage. You'll only need crit if your after PvP, but since its an event mage then damage is a lot better.

BTW, is that mage named Wyvern? :)

Damage is more worthwhile. At low levels, your crit chance is so low, you would never break even on total damage output. Especially considering that +20 DMG is a large increase at low levels. With crit values below 10% for sorcs at low levels (I'm assuming somewhere between level 10-15), you would need a +30% crit or more to make up the difference, based on my rough math.

Consider these statistics, based on 100 attacks from a mainstream geared level 10(give or take) sorc. Assume auto-attack damage only and that crit does 200% damage of a normal auto-attack.

Crit based build (+15% Crit):
DMG: 60
Crit: 30%
Total Non-Crit Damage: 70 * 60 = 4200
Total Crit Damage: 30 * (2 * 60) = 3600
Total Damage Output: 7800

DMG based build (+20 DMG):
DMG: 80
Crit: 10%
Total Non-Crit Damage: 90 * 80 = 7200
Total Crit Damage: 10 * (2 * 80) = 1600
Total Damage Output: 8800

Keep in mind, this is auto attack damage only. Skill damage is based on your DMG stat, so this disparity would be magnified even more.

Here is a chart for quick reference. Note that this is just a rough calculation and that there are more in the game (like armor/hit rate/procs/etc) that needs to be considered.

Yes, I'm back! Grinding to cap now (without running tombs or mines)

I probably won't go as hardcore as I did in my previous life, but I'm sure I will still focus on running elites.

Go for DMG, if you really want some crit you can use Ribbit AA to boost you critical a bit

Believe it or not, for a low level farming Sorc, I preferred a DEX primary, INT secondary build, as it gave more DMG, more Crit and more HP. Obviously, this build doesn't scale well as you lose out on Bonus DMG %, which is pegged to your primary stat (INT).

But, for a pure nuke'em low level Sorc, a DEX build is outstanding!

Woah! Good to know. Its sorc level 15 with assault gear filled with fortified chaos jewels. Might use para amulet which have dex as primary stat and int as second. Will it grant more damage to me than int build?

DEX will give more DMG and HP per stat point than INT, but you lose out on mana. I am not sure what the break-even level for Bonus DMG% is, but for lv10, DEX was my preferred build for Sorcs.

At lv15, you should see higher DMG, Crit and HP, but you would have to test it out. I only had tanks and rogues at lv15.

For a low level character it is better to go for damage instead of crit.

20 damage seems kind of low compared to 15% crit.
