Frost bolt is cool skill but you still need time shift. Time shift is just must have for every mage. Ice have same damage skill as lightning but light crit is much higher and have 250% damage upgrade. ( bit of off-topic [emoji14] ) in cap 41-46 i used ice fire clock gale/shield for mobs to have full crowd control and swapped ice with light at boss just cause it have more damage and crit ( with upgrades )
Now since clock mastery came i don't really find ice useful for PvE when you use clock mastery. Well ice have small chance to freeze boss with mastery but that can do pets too.

Idk what maps your running, but I'm doing the end game maps and frost is a huge life saver. I'm using frost fire and clock all with whatever upgrade it needs to stun/freeze.
See in threads lately ppl complaining about dying a lot? I'm only lv 57 and frost saves me constantly. The freeze is reliable lasts way longer than the cool down, and is my go to when clock misses the Mage or rogue who stand far apart from the crowd or spawn behind other mobs and one shot people.
It can damage more than one person, keep them frozen indefinitely until they die, and sometimes leave that ice patch as a trap for others.
Very valuable

Ice is a great skill incase your shield is down and your clock is misplaced. It can save you from a lot of damage especially from the archers in the new map, they one shot you!

You'll still need time shift
When you get a big pull best way to use ice is charge shield run in the middle charging ice and I've them more mobs will freeze this way than if you stand back and fire charged ice

I'm currently using frost, fire, lightning, gale. I could probably replace gale with clock but I feel like SnS and ice / fire more than make up for lack of clock.

Epic skill. Charged can freeze a whole horde for like 7 seconds.

I normally put mages, which run pug elite without frost bold (and clock and fireball for that matter) on ignore at the end of the run :)

10/10 timeshift mastery works better than frost bolt alone

Good for both boss and mobs, best combination was using time and gale all mobs to wall [emoji14]

Yes, BUT timeshift relies on RNG where frost bolt doesn't.
Imaging at the mob group and the undead rogue is casting an aimed shot, and then you're like "let's hope my timeshift freezes the rogue in time", instead of "let's cast frostbolt on the rogue to freeze him and stop the aimed shot"

I've been running 10/10 since it's initial release, the thing is, dispute being maxed out, it still doesn't Guarentee a freeze. There are mobs that got freeze at the first tick, but there are also some that took me 2-3 clock (just general experience)

how much point u put on frostbolt mastery?

Depends on what build I'm on, when I have 4 attacks I'll put 10 in it. Lately I've 3 attacks and shield and instead of putting points into frost mastery shield is getting those. I wanted more defense on the new maps.

is good to move 5 points from passive damage to mastery frost bolt?

When I returned I read up on what I missed, like passives & most posts I read weren't in favor of passive damage.
If I'm not mistaken it tops out @ 2.5, so that's easy to replicate with an awakening.
Other masteries unlock abilities that you can't replicate as easily, like the ability to hit more people with that same skill, or the way gale clears some debuffs. Just 5 points into frost mastery is only going to get a couple percent on that random chance so I would look for a better place for those 5 points.
I think of frost mastery like time shift in that I'll either place 10 points in it or none.
