Last year they had a week prior to the actual event where we could purchase hallows eve chests. This could be something similar.

Was that the event crate? Or was it the massive spider ones that were from event recipes..

It's no problem! They were platinum purchased crates that you could either sell in auction or open. Some of the better prizes that they contained were vanities (grey reaper / blue witch / mummy stuff), and the pet grimm which was far more expensive than it is now.
