We all know what grinding is: looooooooong series of repeated areas to get alot of exp that is required to lvl up. I thought this over as a person who doesn't use elixers alot and came up with a way to make grinding less boring.
My engie is at lvl 30 and I made a challenge to myself to reach all the lvl caps with him, but this one is super long with an omenous 34,040 exp required sign hanging around in my inventory. With this in hand I have came up with a way to grind away while having a bit of fun. Here are some tips to help you grind:

1: DON'T LOOK TOO MUCH!
Don't constantly look at your exp bar. It will help if you look at it over some long periods to notice big differences which will boost morale. I study the human mind with time lapses etc. (I can explain my findings later)

2: IF YOU HAVE QUESTS...
If you have quests in the area, ALWAYS start from lvl one up to the quest area. You will get ALOT of exp, maybe a few purples, and credits to upgrade your purple armor if any. I did this in red sun pirates area and breezed through it to Cycorp.

3: DISTRACT YOURSELF!
To constantly think of the grinding causes stress alot so I would reccomend that you "distract yourself." Help others, farm purples you need, or make a goal of some sort to keep yourself from breaking rule #1. An example of this would be my Santa Abe events. I farm the purples on my list and, by following rule #1, I was shocked to see that I had gotten 1,000 exp very quickly along with some credits to top it off.

4: STOP REPEATING THE SAME THING!
Create variety! Do something new! Do the first lvl instead of the Scorching lvl for the 50th time! Stop boredom! I always liked new things so I created different types of runs like one day its lvl 1-3, and the next day its lvl 4-5.

5: GET SOME SLEEP!
This is important. Its always essential to stay healthy so get some sleep before you pass out grinding.

6: DON'T ALWAYS GET ON!
As a gamer I know that over-excessive use of a video game can be degrading. Thats why I am a Boy Scout. I go outside and camp on frozen lakes, mosquitoe-infested summer Camp Chief Little Turtle, and the regular outdoors. The point is is to realize there is a bigger world outside the screen. Plus if you obey this rule you can follow rule #5.

7: HAVE FUN!
Have fun with what you are doing by chatting with your guild, being active in contest, and help others at all times. Being generous is what makes me happy. Before you know it, you will lvl up fast!

I hope this guide helps you out as it is helping me so far. This guide can be used for any lvl character so use these hints and tips to HAVE FUN!

Great guide! For the distraction, I throw on a show or movie that I have seen before. That way I don't get sucked into what I'm watching but still enjoy the background :)

Yeah I do this too. I'll often watch a movie at the same time as grinding and then the movie will finish before I know it and I won't know what happened! It still seems to work well in distracting me. IMO PL is a game that doesn't require 100% concentration in some circumstances, however in some cases it most definitely does (eg. PvP, Shadow Caves etc.).

PS> Great tips!

Very nice tips, Cahaun. I only have one question: what is this "sleep" thing you mention? *puzzles* Seriously, I'm sure it'll help a lot of folks doing the long grind. :)

*also attempts to guess what DVD Bod threw in....hmmmm.....*

People need to sleep so that they can grind more effectively with a clear mind. Plus you won't get moody if you aren't tired. This is more of a psychological method I guess. Now I need to make a guide to healthy playing. :p

I think tip #1 is the best one. I'm not particularly interested in reaching the level cap, so i'm not really "going for it," but I still enjoy playing. Anyway, the point is I ran levels for a couple hours recently after having just reached level 30, and I happened to glance at the exp bar and saw that there isn't even the slightest sliver of yellow yet. A little disheartening for sure!

This guide can be used for both SL and PL. I could double post on the PL general discussion area if you want. ;)
