On the iPad, when the chat box is on the largest setting, if I tap not on it but about half an inch below it, the chat still opens (keyboard and typing row get displayed). It doesn't happen when the chatbox is set to 1 lines or 3 lines, only when it's set to large. It can get a bit inconvenient when one is trying to tap to move.
