I am a little confused. Isn't a KD Ratio only meaningful in a PvP environment, most notably in FPS. While we share similarities without PvP whats the point.

Any1 can exit the game before they die, or run away from the group to save there precious useless ratio...

If your looking to prove your skill then PL needs to start hosting races or something. The spawns are always the same choose a section n go go go.

It doesn't matter just what your deaths are :) what matters are your kills in comparison. If were to just go off deaths some of the best pvp players I know are on the LDR Boards for have most deaths but they are also on the LDR boards for having 2x the amount of kills...lol

And yes if you leave from said PVP match just to avoid death your being awarded a death anyways :)

Anyone can pubstomp all day, and get a 3 K/D without trying. I don't think any of it matters.

The more you play, the more you kill and die. I wonder if anyone has zero deaths (aside from new players).

It's all for show. None of it really matters. I just like trying to keep my ratios clean for self satisfaction. I hide them anyways:p

K/D ratio is actually a very unreliable way to judge a player's skill.

1. A player can easily kill boost; that is, pay another player to stay still or to have 2 phones with 2 accounts, log on and endlessly kill the alt

2. A player that becomes experienced and spends most of their time fighting other experienced players will have a higher K/D than other players. FPS games suffer from similar limitations.

3. Some players learn slower and have a lower K/D as a result. K/D does measure a player's skill going into a game

The only time when K/D should be considered an alarm bell is if a player's K/D is very low.

Players that start will usually have a K/D ratio under 0.7K / 1D. This is entirely expected.

However, players who have had thousands of kills and still have a relatively low K/D is a flag. Perhaps they could not improve. Either that, or they spent their entire PvP career fighting top players, which again highlights my earlier post about K/D's inherent unreliability.

I say deaths are battle scars. Wear them with pride!

My level 28 Commando (this is the auto-level experiment one) has 4035 kills and 1 death. Not through any skill or running off, and I tank that rascal hard--it's just plain luck. Well, maybe one skill--I play a bird mainly in PL and I've gotten *really* good at downing health pots when needed. :D

ETA: If it dies 47.5 more times by tomorrow....oh, well. Dying's part of the game and it doesn't hurt.

I sware was today like national troll day?!?!?!
So I was just minding my own business in blackstar and this guy just started making fun of me because of my k/d and invited some other guys to help him so I just left to go to numa and then I saw another fight about a players k/d. So this really bugged me because some people will just leave a game or use a whole mess of stims to avoid a death while others just don't care.

I dunno why people don't get that it just doesn't matter. :( I've run with you--you're good at what you do (besides being fun and a mighty fine dancer :) ) that's all that matters.

Lol. I ran into those guys a few hours later. I just kept saying lol because I was answering that were being asked by the new players. I now know them as The Troll, The Flamer, and The Bragger( Idk if that's a word). I also have 'Your now ignored :) have a nice day' as one of my preset slots.

How about "Braggart"? A fine word that sounds a little like it should belong to a small, yappy dog with enormous antlers. "Hark! I do hear the call of the Braggart on the breeze. The game's afoot!" :D Just don't forget to pick-up a hunting license and ear tag (where local hunting laws are applicable).

(And aren't you grateful for the "Ignore" button some days? I am. :D )

I have hundreds of deaths in both pvp and PVE. I really really hope they take these things out of the game. Awarding deaths from leaving in PVP was a start, but these meaningless stats shouldn't be there- they just cause cheating and drama.

It's kind of fun trying to run an "Immortal" char, although I haven't tried it in SL yet. Trying to get 0 deaths while not hanging back/booping out of tight spots, not using elixirs/enhancers and while doing all the quests is a fun little personal challenge when you don't have anything better/more fun to do. There's even a forum group to go "brag" on, but it's more along the lines of, "Geez! I can't believe I finally made it to X!" rather than, "Look how pro I am!"--it's just for fun. As for looking at someone's numbers and saying anything....pfft. No.

And I've run with you, too, Conradin--I don't care what your numbers are; you can play. :D

deaths and kills don't matter IMO (although i have 5909 kills 25 deaths on main) what matters is how you play and how useful you are to the team^_^

Okay I get were most of you are coming from but is the K/D ratio really that bad? There are some positives to this aspect of the game such as..

Knowing what your skills are, how and when to use them to be most effective.. not just spamming and because your in a group hoping for the best (not saying everyone does this mind)

Trying to calculate the best, most effective and fast way to kill an enemy, the quicker they fall the quicker you can finsh the level and rmk. (Save stims)

Being aware of your suroundings.. knowing when and when not to use the explosive barrels etc.

These can all be done without a K/D record.. but when playing this type of character, it all becomes more important and then when you are running with your normal toon you find that you die less and are more effective in playing your class.

If would ask anyone that hasnt tried this before to give it ago its surprising how mich you can learn from the class you are playing.

My mian and alts have abt 5-15k kills and 16-30 Deaths and Im not one to run when the going gets tough I stay and fight until the end as most can vouch for me :)

There's nothing wrong with a "good" K/D, Bod--not at all. It's the folks that use it as a stick to bonk people over the head with like the ones following Starsavior around. Lol, you aren't the sort to go around trolling someone over their K/D in any case. :) He plays well no matter what his K/D is. I don't need to look at either of you two's K/D's--you both know how to play (and I'd vouch for your stubborn Commando-hood any time). Personally, I'd kind of hate to see it go because, like you, I use it as my personal scorecard. I guess it's like a hammer--you can use it to build a house for the homeless or you can smack somebody upside the head. I just hate to see people misuse what can be a useful tool. :D
