View Full Version : Is dexterity useful for tanks?

I always get the intelligence type gear for extra mana. Am I missing something by ignoring dexterity? I notice I miss targets and my auto target feels slow and clunky. If I mix the gear is the extra dexterity worth losing mana?

No . Idtso. Mana is always more useful. Dex is only useful in pvp conditions that too only in the crit dept.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't think anyone would give an opinion.

I always try to keep my crit at a decent level. Crit isn't that important to a warrior, but something I keep an eye on.

I would recommend in this order:

1. Focus on armor and health
2. Focus on damage/dps
3. Focus on mana
4. Focus on crit %.

I don't worry about mana ATM because I use mishi. Pets, passives, awakens, gear (potency, assault, warfare types) and other things play into your choices as well.

What critical do you have now?

I think it's at 33% while buffed.

Nice. Unbuffed I'm around 15. I only just started to pvp so I never worried about crit.

Like I said I use all potency gear but I did put 5 of 5 into dex passive. Did you mix in other types of gear to increase your crit?

Dragon sword
Mythic balanced helm
Mythic balanced armor
Mythic illuminating belt - assault
Arcane ring
Arcane pendant - war

Passives all 5/5 - str, dex, int, durable, damage.

Focus on fury jewels

I have all fury jewels.

I think the answer is "no". Tanks don't care about dex :)

Takes a special tank to go dex

If you don't pvp you don't need dexterity higher than 50 or critical more than 15%. In pve and especially in mausoleum maps (for excample) mages and rogues do all the dmg with their arcane/mythic weapon's proc. Aslo you definitely don't need high dmg too. Just high strength and armor and maybe a weapon with a useful and good proc ( like glint aegis , Dragon sword or even the new arcanes ----but not necessarily ).

Doesn't work the way it should it AL, put all your points to STR and just get DEX passive

personally i dont use intelligence in any of my armour boosts .... i dont need mana as i can pot mana, so i havent put any skill points or armour points into intelligence. Id rather have higher dexterity/crit/etc etc

I'm going to test your build out Greo. Not that we get much choice at end game but see if I can change to a more dex related build then int.

Back when I posted this I was looking at the mythic armor and weapons. Now with night set and arc sword 66 my choices are fairly limited. All fury jewels, all points in strength and all passive maxed (except movement spped). Warrior mysteries are not very exciting so I'm not going to change much now. Maybe at new expansion :)

I actually also don't bother with int on my war, and put those points into dex, and also crits more than damage. From what I've noticed in AL, I suspect the aggro calculators are based on crit hits rather than overall damage (something I noticed in other MMOs such as WoW, and also because wars don't have the same max damage multipliers as the DPS classes I believe), so this makes more effective tanking.

im not using knowledge or quickness in my passives ..... instead ive completed a masteries skill with those ten points.

No i dont think it is worth the mana loss.

No i dont think it is worth the mana loss.

why waste any points into intelligence for mana ... when you can just pot mana?
Every little bit helps in dexterity .... a tank having high intelligence is a complete waste of points in pve.
