don't you guys love exposing scammers and them read what they say about bot being one? i know i do^_^
p.s. one of the biggest scams is the texor bodysuit mentioned to be a "plate vanity" plz do not fall for it for its a obvious scam for two reasons
1) you get it at the beginning of the game.
2) there is no vanity plate section in inventory

I popped in on some guy trying to get javi to take a "challenge", the "challenge" peaked my interest so i asked the guy what it was. Javi tells me ahead of time that the guy was scamming so i was already wary, the guy's challenge was for me to try to farm up a vanity and if i was successful i got to keep it (dont get ahead of me, thats not the scam part lol). But if i didnt get a vanity then i had to pay the guy "shame pay", so ya soooper scammer lol.

Also be wary of the folks wanting to trade accounts. This is a direct violation of the SS Terms of Service. I've run into two in the past 24 hours and they were reported with the quickness.

If I could take screen shots, way back when Numa first came out, and a certain commando joined into KoC and left 15 mins later with a full donated Sandstorm set and laughed at me for being generous, I could make this thread REALLY ironic. Unfortunately I am a phone noob and the Commando in question is safe from humility. Lesson learned.

Sorry if I trolled a bit. But the truth is, you never told me you apologized, and when confronted you denied ever joining KoC, or I wouldn't have felt the need to say anything. I don't want any money, an apology was good enough for me. I'm glad you realized the error of your ways, and it seems like you're becoming a better person already by admitting it. I appreciate the honesty, I really do. If you hadn't noticed in game, I've unblocked you since a few days ago, so I'm over it. Just found this thread ironic at first. I'm glad whatever GM told you to do that is no longer controlling your actions thru fear. Hope we can get along from here on out, Jav.

The most dangerous scam would be someone trading you one item for 6 or 7 lesser valued items and telling you because they cannot all fit in the trade screen you should give him a few first before the actual trade. He will not give you the item...lol it happens a lot.

"Rules" of safe-trading (in quotes because they're really recommendations, but "rules" sounds more authoritative ;) ):
1. Never trade anything that won't fit in the trade window. So...not only more items then will fit but things you *can't* put in a trade window like a name. Or "Give me credits here and I'll give you stuff in PL." or vice versa. Just no.
2. Double-check before hitting the first confirm button.
3. Qunituple-check before hitting the last confirm button. Count the zeros in the number of credits. Check the level of the gear you're purchasing. Re-check everything. Now do it twice more.
4. Phrases to beware of:
A. "Hurry! I have to get offline!"--usually said during the checking and rechecking process. If he's in that much of a rush, maybe you should cancel the transaction and do it when he has more time. Or maybe he needs to go try and scam someone else.
B. "Secret method/way/whatever...."--there *are* no secrets. Anything someone's selling as a "secret" can be found on the forum in about 5 seconds with a search. The only "secrets" involve glitches and exploiting them is against the TOS.
C. Anything involving plat--against TOS. It's not tradable so it's going to involve giving up account info. Not happening.
D. Any time someone claims something along the lines of "There's only one in the auction and it's X credits"--check the auction; oddly, people have fibbed before. If it's in the auction at a ridiculously high price, be aware that that item might also be your "friendly" seller's.
5. If you're wanting a particular item, check the auction for a couple days and the Traders section here. Get a feel for what it's selling for. Most people want it *now* and will buy the first one they see. Sellers love that.

@ CanonicalKoi: Excellent advice, and spot-on, as usual! ;) But wait, people fib...?

Regarding the Texor Bodysuit; definitely not a "Plate Vanity", but not everyone has one, either. This item is currently given to ALL new UCS Blackstar privateers. However, this was not always the case. If I am correct, this item did not debut until the second or third revision to the new character tutorial. My characters that started in beta did not get one, and I picked up one I found in auction for about 200 Credits. At that time, it was bugged and not displaying properly as nothing. Still way more than it is worth, but I did not feel "scammed"... :p

One more thing I learned the other day from an incredibly honest seller.

If you're buying a 5-piece set from someone, calculate 4/5 of the full set price for the first four pieces, then the last 1/5 of the price for the last piece. This eliminates the possibility of the typical 'set scam' where the last piece is never given. :)

Scamming which includes: free platinum, "Give me ur email and passwrd", and overpricing items to the extreme. (Maybe not bannable but it's scamming. Someone is trying to sell a meganaught set for 35k)

Here are the signs of a scam: "Can I borrow/loan/test out your <insert item>?"

Ways to prevent scams: Check how much money he puts into trade carefully as some tend to quickly put in way less than agreed on, blame lag, and run away. Know the prices also as some may want to trick you in thinking that it is worthless and oh "Can I have that then?" Kind of stuff.
