All of my friends with iphones had some kind of problem with the update. It either erased some or all of their contacts, gave them error messages, or in the rare case; bricked their phones! Gingerbread 2.3....I mean iOS5 seems to be causing a lot of problems, which is such a letdown after that long installation wait. A girlfriend of mine had to wait 12 hours for hers to install!

With waiting for iTunes to update, downloading iOS 5, upgrading my phone, and getting everything sync'd,
It took 5 hours -____-

However, the only thing I lost were my contacts, but their names and such are still saved in my messages ....
Tha was my only issue really. My music and apps were still in tact. Idk what happened with my contacts.

EDIT: if I open the phone icon, on the contacts tab they're all still there. If I search them up they appear too. But checking on the contacts app there's nothing there

There were all kinds of problems for many users yesterday because Apple's servers were overloaded, but things are reportedly much, much better now.

Personally, my iPad upgraded without a problem.

On the other hand, I've had tons of problems trying to get the iPhone to upgrade, mostly getting error -42 (out of space, I think), maybe because the iOS5 takes up a lot more space, which is leaving me without enough space to do the restore after the upgrade. Still working on finishing that upgrade (iOS itself is upgraded, but I'm trying to restore my content). Beware to clear enough space on your iPhone/iPad before doing the upgrade.

K first of all this is all wrong, iOS 5 is in it's testing stages. It's not coming out till December. iPhone 4-S was basically a beta of what you should expect from iOS 5 when it comes out with the iCloud and voice command app. But iPhone 4-S is ONLY for iPhones not iPods nor iPads.

Installed iOS 5 on my iPad today (holding off to install on my iPhone until I'm sure it won't cause me any problems). Working great so far. Especially love the 'split' keyboard, makes typing during runs a bit easier IMO :)

Lol dude you have absolutely no idea what your talking about. iOS 5 is public on iTunes as of yesterday. Not flaming, just saying.
Thanks for playing

If I update it will it wipe out all my apps and music? I've had some problems not being able to sync apps so I'd have to manually download all of them.

If you can't backup your apps in iTunes, you'll have to reinstall them again. Don't really understand why you wouldn't be able to just create a backup in iTunes though.

Once you have updated to iOS 5, and restored your backup, this should be a thing of the past. You can basically backup your songs, apps, settings... automatically to iCloud (5GB free).

Must've somehow missed your post. Updating my iPad took about 15minutes or less (including downloading of firmware). I don't have much on it though (been degraded to a gaming console since I discovered PL) :)

If I update it will it wipe out all my apps and music? I've had some problems not being able to sync apps so I'd have to manually download all of them. The upgrade backs up your apps and music to iTunes, wipes your phone, installs the new iOS, and then restores your apps and music from the backup.

The fact that syncs don't work with your phone makes me a little cautious. You might try to do a manual backup and restore on your phone to see if restoring works before you attempt the upgrade.

I'm waiting for the issues to be resolved. People here in house have had various levels of success. I'll try next week sometime I think.

You might try to do a manual backup and restore on your phone to see if restoring works before you attempt the upgrade. Hmm, even the non-upgrade restore might wipe your phone, so I'd be very, very cautious. Do you know why syncs aren't working for you?
