Hello all, and welcome to the Clash of the Couples – an epic 2v2 FFA-oriented PvP tournament destined to reveal the true dynamic duo of PvP. Test your skills against formidable opponents in this electrifying PvP competition and rise to the top!



**Congratulations to Dolloway and Iiroseii on winning the Clash of the Couples 2v2 Tournament!**


Tournament Style:

1. 2v2 FFA
2. Map: Campaign Arenas, Forest Fight!
3. Any combination of classes is allowed to enter WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SAME-CLASS TEAMS. That is, a team cannot consist of two mages, two bears, two birds, etc.
4. Matches are best 3 of 5. That is, a maximum of 5 games can be played. The first team to win 3 games advances to the next round.
5. Each individual game is played to the standard 10 kills.

How To Enter:

1. In this thread, post the in-game names of your team and classes.
2. You must designate one captain to be responsible for communication.
For example: Ghost (Captain) - Mage, RandomPlayer - Rhino

Rules:

1. Players may NOT start a game until all players have said "Go." That is, each individual game (not just the first game of the match) requires that all players say go.
2. Players cannot change classes. If your team consists of a bear and a bird in one match, you cannot use a different class for a different match. Choose wisely.
3. Screenshots (or some form of proof) of each individual game must be posted to this thread or directed to me in order to advance to the next round. Failure to provide proof will not result in a win.
4. All obstacles in the arena are permitted. That is, there is no penalty for using trees.
5. If a player leaves during a game, the game may continue as a 2v1. If both players of a team leave after everyone has said "Go", that will result in one game loss. Screenshots are required in this case.
6. NO VANITIES ALLOWED
7. Failure to follow these rules will result in disqualification.
8. Please be respectful and have good sportsmanship. If any team does not act accordingly to my discretion, it will result in disqualification and bans from future tournaments.

EDIT ON TREES:

I want to address an issue that many have asked about recently –

In the event that a team "abuses" the tree, they will be DQed. I know if I don't specify what "abuse" means then people will get pissed at me, so please read carefully.

You are abusing the match if, for example, it's the beginning of the match and you simply sit behind the tree with buffs ready to go. You are abusing the use of trees if it's midgame, both teams are buffed and ready to fight, and you sit behind the trees. Basically, don't be a bad sport and we won't have a problem. I have no problem with people using trees if it's mid-battle (fleeing to a tree to help regen), or maybe strategically using a tree mid-battle to off-set a skill from an opponent.

In other words: DON'T PLAY LIKE A SITTING DUCK. If there are any issues regarding this, I will DQ teams to my discretion (I will always ref any games that display such behavior). Be a good sport. You can use the trees, but don't live in them.

Prizes:

PvP Tournament Champion Shields awarded to the winning team!

The winners of the tournament will receive a gold prize. The gold prize is to be determined – the more teams we have, the bigger the prize (so spread the word). It will be a sizable, lofty prize that is to be split evenly between the winning team. I am accepting any donations (gold, items, vanities) to go towards the prize.

Here's the deal guys, as I've had a lot of questions recently about this issue:

Ideally I'd like to not run a tournament with any byes. But if there are a large number of players who continue to ask to join, then I may have to randomly generate teams that receive byes. But that strictly depends on how many teams request AFTER we have hit 16 teams. After we hit 16 teams, I will wait a bit to see how many people request to join. That'll give all the contestants an opportunity to practice/talk about some of the outcomes they'd like to see :)

Good games to Iuis and Attackin! Rose and I managed to win, but they were tough games. Totally threw us off our strat and we had to adapt to a new one to win. Iuis is lowkey maybe the best rhino I've played against this cap.

Ghost, it has come to my attention that people may abuse gear switching and as such, to keep the remainder of this tournament as fair as possible, I recommend that you ban gear switching after everyone has said "Go".

This is problematic because my opponent may deal 2k dmg to me while I'm using a level 100 set but if I switch gears, I will still remain at the same percentage of health lost. I can confirm that this glitch works and although My class would benefit I think it best to ban gear switching. Enforcing this would be difficult and may require that vanity not be allowed.

Sorry about this, Dissolver and me were playing a few practice matches with Husky and Rose, and my partner was taking off his gear so i could heal him faster, using those insta gear swapping slots. I assure you though this hasn't nor will it happen in any tourney match. I already told him that it probably is illegal in the tourney, and theres no point in even doing it in practice matches. It's fine by me if someone has to come watch our next match. I'm not in this tourney to cheat at all.

It has to come to my attention that there is a serious, game-changing bug that favors STR-based classes. If you read the couple posts above, Dolloway explains it perfectly.

I know many of you will tell me: "But Ghost, you did not specify in the rules that changing gear is NOT allowed." Okay, true.

But rule 7, however, says that if people lack poor sportsmanship and do not act accordingly to my discretion, then it could result in a DQ. And this type of exploitation is unacceptable and will not be condoned. I would expect that everyone who participates in my tournament acts logically and intelligently, and should know that this type of behavior will not be tolerated. All that I ask for is a fair, enjoyable tournament where everyone can compete on the same playing ground. Not everyone knew about this highly advantageous bug, and therefore it reflects poorly on those who abused it. It is disappointing that players are relying on dirty measures to win this tournament – I suppose that it is my fault since a PvP tournament shield is on the line. And that's exactly it – I want a completely fair tournament BECAUSE a tournament shield is on the line.

As such, I do need to speak to Arvoh and Dissolver. I have had numerous teams report their use in the exploitation of this bug. I will not disqualify them.

I will, however, ask that they start from round 1 and replay their matches. That is, Nxxxb/Draining and Crash/Wanted will have another shot. If they refuse to replay their matches, they will be disqualified. Anyone who displays this type of behavior will be disqualified, no further questions.

About the whole gear switching issue, i want to say that Dissolver was just taking off his gear so that i could heal him faster in a PRACTICE match against Husky and Rose yesterday. I told him to stop it multiple times (Husky and Rose can confirm this), so i didn't think this would grow into an actual issue, so i didn't report this last night. I am against all sorts of cheating in anyway, and i can truthfully say we didnt cheat in any of our previous matches, the LAST thing i want is to be branded as a cheater. If that were the case, our opponents would have instantly brought it up then and there, and with screenshots of they really wanted to, since it was fairly easy for everyone (Husky, Rose, and myself) to notice. If we do have to redo our matches then so be it, this is pretty much a second chance to advance in this tournament, but i trust that our past opponents will tell the truth. I apologize for my partner's idiotic behavior, im just as annoyed as everyone else..

Now I cannot speak for these individuals, but I will relay what they have told me. Rose confronted Dissolver in private message about this and told him that he shouldn't be doing this, but he stated that "it isn't illegal. It's not in the rules".

I heard about this and didn't quite understand what Dissolver was doing (neither did Husky) until I tested it myself with a friend. Originally I was just under the impression that somehow Dissolver was switching sets to get a higher h/s but that didn't quite make much sense to me considering the level 100 set offers the highest h/s in the game currently, or so I believe. Then after switching gears myself and playing around with it, I realized that the exploit is actually switching gears to get a lower health total to regain full health faster through heals and regen and then switch back to a much higher health total that is thousands more. Upon realization, I immediately thought that this should be banned from the tournament and told Ghost about this just minutes after finding out.

When I asked Wanted and Crash about this, one told me that "they were hidden behind the trees or tents a lot" and "that makes sense considering I don't really recall Arvoh rapidly using that heal behind the tree. They just hid for a bit then came out. Like usually I would think you would keep healing and you're still not full."

I very much so believe that exploits like these should be made known to the community when they are found out so we do not compromise the integrity of this tournament. There is a pvp shield on the line. Does everyone remember the last time a tournament was disrupted by a game changing exploit? It was the 66 mage tournament where you could keep buffing over and over again to achieve insane stats due to the free respecs at the time that worked in pvp zones. I do not understand Dissolver's reasoning for not making this known and for continuing to deny that there is anything wrong with this when he was confronted by Rose. At least if you're confronted, admit that this is a very questionable tactic and ask Ghost if something like this can be used in the tournament.

I support Ghost's final decision and whatever he decides to do, whether that's continue on with the tournament as the brackets currently stand, have Arvoh and Dissolver replay matches, or start the whole tournament over from the beginning with the same bracket lineup. I just ask that exploits like these be banned from this tournament from here on out and for any future tournaments. It's very frustrating to hear that this tactic could have been used to win matches and what lengths people may go to when there is a pvp shield as a prize.

We cant prove or disprove you using the bug against us, but during previous matches no one even knew about this therefore didnt look for it/ report it. All our matches were real close 8-10 7-10 8-10. We even managed to win one 10-8. So if it were being used it could be a game changer. Crash and I both recall arvoh/dissolver going behind tents/trees. There it could of been done swapping gear under vanity so almost looks like nothing going on. Not accusing, Crash and I just want a fair shot if something did happen. I think you guys will beat us again because all around better team composition but thats fine. At least we will know with no doubt it was fair. And if you guys do go all the way everyone will know you earned it no questions asked.

That being said, would it be possible to have a viewer or "ref" in the game to make sure this confusion doesn't happen in the future??

Congratulations to Dolloway and Rose on the tough, uphill battle against Husky and Oneshot. After a 2-0 deficit in the series, Dollo and Rose managed to win three straight in a row. This was perhaps one of the greatest tournament matches I have ever had the pleasure to hear about (I just wish I could have recorded this). Both teams played their hearts out, and it's these very matches that have always made PL the game that it is today.

I suspect Dollo will post the screenshots of the games soon. Great job, guys. It's matches like these that make the tournaments so memorable.

However, I agree to recording my finals (if the other finalists agree to it as well).

I opted to not have my semi-final match recorded because I don't want other teams still in the tournament to be able to go back and watch my prior games to see my play style, combos, etc.

I respect your decision. It's a bit of a bummer, though. Games like that have earned their place in the recorded history of great PL arena matches. Sounds like it would have been a classic. Anyway, a big congrats to you and Rose on the semifinal games and good luck going forward :D

Was a very good game, first tourney didn't expect to make it this far! Well played game and thanks to ghost for hosting this tourney!

Do any of the dates of September 3rd, 4th, or 9th work for you?

Reason being is that Rose gets her data back sometime on the 3rd or the 4th. If it's the 3rd, I think we can work out a match for that day maybe. If she doesn't get the data that day she's not going to be able to do the match. If it's the 4th, I'm not so sure because it's Labour Day and I don't know what everyone's plans are, but she says that she can do that day too unless her coach wants her involved in some event on the spur of the moment. The other date, if neither of the first two pan out well, is September 9th. Rose is very busy during the week and doesn't have much time because she just started her senior year in uni, so the best time to get matches in would be during the weekends.. After she gets data, of course.

Try to do it in August i have school in september i have like 5 days to fit in this tourney game, I have renamed my bear from Dissolver -> Baiting so there is no confusions and so that's cleared up he's not a different bear it's still me

I'm going to shorten in down to 8-10 p.m i'm going to the beach and coming back between 7-8 p.m and me and arvoh might use the time 8-9 p.m to practice the game will be inbetween 9-10 p.m i would like members to be on before 9 p.m though including ghost ref, i would usally skip going to beach but it is last day before school and this is eastern time that i am talking about ^

Congratulations to Rose and Dolloway on defeating the undisputed Arvoh and Dissolver. It was a great tournament, and I know there were some setbacks, but everyone's contribution makes this fun. I have a 15 minutes video of the championship match that I will post here when it is done uploading. Rose and Dolloway are the winners of two tournament shields (I will PM Cinco and get that arranged before I leave for my 13 week study abroad trip), as well as winners of the 20m gold pot.
