I saw the patch notes that said that the new client supported subscription-based play.
I am all ready to fork over a monthly payment.
Where do I sign, and what does it give me?

But it doesn't say, "subscription-based play", it just says, "Added code support for subscriptions (not yet available)". The same thing was added to PL and when people asked over there what exactly it entailed, the answer was to the effect of "when it's closer to a reality, we'll fill everyone in".
ETA: StompArtist asked over on the PL side if non-subscribers would still be able to play. Sam replied, "Yes!". So before panic and rumors run amok, how's about we all wait and find out exactly what a subscription is. Then people can panic, but at least they'll be panicking with actual knowledge of the situation. ;)

I expect the game to remain free-to-play, with the option of micro-transactions. It's their bread-and-butter. I hope they expand into a subscription model that coexists with the other model and also doesn't have any penalties for cancelling the service.
I can burn $30 on a happy hour and my wife wouldn't blink. But if there's an unexpected $10 charge on the phone bill, my day of reckoning is at hand.

The game will still be free to play, the.subscription will be for those players willing to pay for the sub, what ever its gonna do.
Hope it comes with a free vanity pet thats exclusive to people who pay. And not turn up on dotd at a later date.

They have to keep it free to play. Apps which have in-app purchases, which star legends have, have to be free to install/play. So no subscriptions.
My guess is that it is preparation for payed level pve or even pvp. Pocket legends is set up this way, right?

PL was set up like this but no longer from PvE all new PvE content since the change has been free, with the exception of PvP and CTF etc, which you have to pay for certain content. :)
(Believe its been like this since AO3 was released)

My wife freaked when she saw my 49.99 receipt ... then I reminded her I'm the only one working and how much her stupid coach bags are.
