I'm so glad this is on PC now - I love fixing up problems!

This is a work around idea for people with older computers, OEM computers etc. and also for anyone who wants to just update their drivers.

This should work to:
*Fix "Freezing on Character screen"
*Updating your drivers will help your computer run better and game faster!

*** Read through all the instructions Before starting ***

How can I find out which graphics card I have in my PC?

Click Start.
On the Start menu, click Run.
In the Open box, type "dxdiag" (without the quotation marks), and then click OK.
The DirectX Diagnostic Tool opens. Click the Display tab.
On the Display tab, information about your graphics card is shown in the Device section. You can see the name of your card, as well as how much video memory it has.

Follow this link:
http://www.omegadrivers.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=53&Itemid=53

You will see a link for either ATI or Nvidia graphics card updates.

Easy!

ATI
NOTE: Older ATI PCs WILL NOT WORK from the automated updating programs.
If your PC is using one of these:
Radeon 7k Series
Radeon 8k Series
Radeon 9k-9250 Series
or the Automated update is not working you need to use the archived files here: http://www.omegadrivers.net/index.php?option=com_phocadownload&view=section&id=5&Itemid=125

Final step: Thank me if this worked for you! :)

Windows
If you have a notebook or laptop computer:

You should visit the website of the notebook manufacturer to download the latest driver.

If you have a desktop or workstation computer:

Before you can update the graphics driver, you need to know what kind of graphics card you have. For more information about how to find out what graphics card you have in your PC, click here.

Once you know the kind of graphics card you have, visit the manufacturer's website to download the latest driver. Here are links for downloading drivers from the most common graphics card manufacturers:

NVIDIA: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
ATI from AMD: http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html
Intel: http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/

Mac OS X
Click the Apple logo.
On the "Apple" menu, click "Software Update."
If there is a Mac OS X update available, you can install it. If there is a graphics driver update, it will be included in the Mac OS X update.

FYI, this is not related to the character screen freeze.

On laptop I had lots of trouble with ATI radeon mobility 9600/9700 series running windows xp. I even found threads about it on computer sites, where experts were saying it is best to just give up...

That's exactly my setup, did you try the Archived Omega drivers?

Isn't =P I'm debugging it right now, and it's related to networking, not graphics.

Clear your browser cache and reload, and the character lockup should be fixed.
