View Full Version : Great Idea for a Great Cause

Greetings to all,

In the near future, I will need to cease playing Pocket Legends (with no fault to STS, I absolutely love them). I am completely in agreement with STS's policy about selling accounts, but I did come up with an idea that I am hoping to get their support on. But before I venture that route, I would like to present the idea to others to see if anyone would indeed be interested.

One of my coworkers has just recently had a mastectomy and is undergoing chemo treatments. Instead of letting my account "die", I would like to donate it to the person who can present the highest donation to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure (http://ww5.komen.org/) foundation. So what I would like to do (contingent to STS's approval and help):

I would "donate" my account to STS.
STS would accept the offers for the donation to Komen for X amount of time.
The "winner" would give the donation to STS, who in turn makes the donation to Komen (preferably in the name of my co-worker).
STS then either gives the account to the "winner" or maybe even allows them to merge the account to their current account.

The account has a lvl 60.25 enchantress, a lvl 56 bow bear, two twinks, 1300 platinum, 2.3 mill gold, numerous vanities, items, vendor slots, and stash slots.

Thoughts?

That's a lovely idea! I don't know
If they will accept it. But it's nice that you'd like the money to help with cancer.

It's an awesome idea, but like KT stated above, I highly doubt that STS will go with it since it breaks their cardinal rule of the ToS. It would leave the impression that selling accounts is ok to some people.

I know it's a stretch to see if they would go with the idea as well, but it never hurts to ask :)

But does it say anything about donating? Just curious.

Well pios since you're trying to get technical, STS didn't go with the idea of pink antenna with proceeds going toward breast cancer research, so why would they auction accounts? If they wanted to, they could just make an ultimate account and auction it, but that'd bring up a whole new world of problems. Like I said, everyone will be like, oh this guys sent his account to someone else (regardless of the circumstance) so it must be ok for me to sell mine off!

Makes sense sorta

Red does make sense and it was definitely a thought that passed through my mind as well. But quite honestly, that should not matter. The end users should not make that assumption especially since it is against ToS, and I venture to gain absolutely nothing from this... I don't want the donation in my name, I don't want involvement of anything except for the actual handing over of my account. And since 1300 plat is not a simple drop in the bucket (I've probably ponied up over $300 to STS), I sincerely don't like that it is about to go to waste.

Hey Lysdexic,

You should have a reply shortly for your ticket to us about your idea. We wouldn't proceed with a character auction for many of the reasons others have raised. However, if you want to donate gold to a player contest, while not benefiting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, it is something that could be done. If you would like to do that, I could inquire to the Ambassadors of Alterra and Guardians of Alterra groups to see if there is a suitable contest that could be put together that those players would be interested in running.

As a general guideline, people come into games to escape the pressures and concerns of the real world, which is why we haven't done tributes or references up to this point.

Warm regards,

Samhayne

Yes, I've already replied and am still thinking of what to do with the leftover gold.

Please stay tuned all, STS are my hero's :)

Well, I have a bit of resolution for y'all.

Although STS did not agree to the auctioning for donation idea, they did make a separate offer that I have instead used:

2252

I would like to sincerely thank all of STS for helping me in this cause... Due to their great help, I have made a donation to the Komen foundation!

I am also going to be popping in to say goodbye during the next week. As much as I'd love to continue playing, I'm a family man first and must part ways. It has been great and I thank all of you who have made it fun!

Very nice Lysdexic!!!

My family recently went through the same sort of thing (my mother had breast cancer)... It was hard but we got through it ok. I hope your co worker does great, and the single best thing that my mother learned from this experience is that if you ever get anything like this, tell ALL your friends. It's much better if you have more support. Pass that on :)

And as i would say in Hebrew, wish her a רפואה שלמה - a Complete Recovery! :)

Good to know, I was kind of throwing around a similar idea about a PL Character Giveaway as well. I thought there would be some red tape involved. Thanks for the clarification Sam.

Very good cause, & I really do like the idea.
