I,posted this bug a while ago... It's all lance and spear items in game that effect the vanity shields in this manner.

A few people have posted this bug. All spears, harpoons, lances, and tridents hide the vanity shield. I believe they fixed the tridents however:)

Vanity offhand items are hidden with 2 handed weapons. If it's being hidden with a 1 handed weapon, it's a bug - please post the exact name of the weapon and its level so it's quick to track down and fix.

I posted a few of the names in another thread somewhere I believed:)
D'jinn spears (Isis, Osiris, legend, conqs, thoth, Horus, etc)
Marauder's spears
Zuraz/conq/legend lance
Harpoons (destiny, rope walkers, templer's. All of em)

On my 24 mage, I have a HardLight shield, and I found the following errors with some weapons.
Brain-o-rator of Destiny -- It's a 2-hander, but still shows the shield.
Zuraz Shock Lance -- It's a 1-hander, but completely hides the shield
