Is anybody here familiar with the legal structure and laws of India?

Hey, I'm just asking what the title says above. Something unfortunate occurred in my family and I wish to know what grounds do I have. This will make more sense once somebody volunteers towards familiarizing me with the structure and laws. I have been researching on google, but I would like to know more than just the information posted on the internet.
