On a cheap gaming rig I'm building for a friend.

Intel Core i3-550 (3.2 GHz 4 MB Cache) ~ $100
HIS Radeon HD 6770 (1GB, GDDR 5) ~ $110
Inter Desktop Board DH55TC ~ $70
Some cheap case w/ 380w(corsair) powersupply. ~ $30
Rest of the RAM/blu-ray drive/drive I had just lying around.

For ~ $300, do you think there's anything too much better? I was looking at the 550 Ti, but that's pushing how much they want to pay.

Thanks in advance. Watch this thread go 80 views/0posts...

If that's his budget, then that's a decent build. I don't know if I would go so far as calling it a 'cheap gaming rig'. But for your friends budget, he shouldn't be expecting champagne on a beer budget.

Another route you might want to look into, is check out your local craigslist for a used rig. I don't know about your area, but I usually see quad core complete machines for under $400 quite often, and as low as $200. Just food for thought.

Maybe at that price point, an AMD CPU and motherboard might get more performance.

Edit:
For raw gaming, get a dual core CPU and use the extra cash on beefing up the GPU.
