So, it's a pretty cloudy and chilly day in Southern California today, but as I was walking, I saw something that brightened my day! A hummingbird in 60 degree weather!!! Thought it was quite peculiar. It was a beautiful pink/red color on its neck with the rest of it's body being black. Took some pictures of it with my iPhone 4S and thought I'd share! I got a few pictures of it in flight too!

I want one as a pet now, lol. It's the cutest thing ever!!!

It's really tiny, so try and find it! Lol, it's like playing "Where's Waldo".

Don't catch them with your hands, their beaks hurt. Bad experience as a kid haha.

You can also break there wings VERY easily, very delicate little things.

They are cool little creatures. I have a feeder on my deck and when they fly by your head they really sound cool!

Sent from my new iPhone. Apollo, thanks for the advice on the 4s. Lovin it!

Np! I'm glad you enjoy it! The camera on this phone is truly amazing! I don't even need to carry around my shooter now, only use that for weddings and formal events now! Although, if I just brought my iPhone 4S, the quality wouldn't have been that much different.

In the first picture, it's perched roughly in the middle of the picture on a plant. It has a pink/red head with a grey body.

I think it's something like 75 a second in flight? May be wrong about that, just remembering hearing it somewhere.

Yeah, when it looks like the hummingbird is floating, it's actually flying. My camera couldn't even catch the wings in motion, lol. :(

I suggest doing some research, to find out everything about them first:

You have an " Anna"s humming bird there. Theyre one on the most incredible animals in the world. Why yeah 70 flaps in one sec, they build nests out of stolen spider webs, and they can hibernate at will. I'm in Portland or & I see them YEAR ROUND. Snowstorms and all. I've seen them punk cats , crows, and hawks. FEARLESS! This is a male mostlikely calling out his territory and patrolling it. Their mating display is allmost impossible to follow. When it was frozen solid here I kept thawing out feeders to replace as they froze and they would land on me. I could write a report on em. <3 em!

Quote from a website I closed before copying the reference and I am too lazy to go to my history:

A hummingbird can rotate each of its wings in a circle, allowing them to be the only bird which can fly forwards, backwards, up, down, sideways or sit in sheer space. To hover, hummingbirds move their wings forward and backward in a repeated figure eight, much like the arms of a swimmer treading water. Hummingbirds can move instantaneously in any direction, start from its perch at full speed, and doesn't necessarily slow up to land. Hummingbirds can even fly short distances upside down, a trick rollover they employ when being attacked by another bird.

Long time ago we used to have hummingbird feeders.

Off topic: One time at my grandmother's house I saw this huge bumble bee. The diameter of its body was at least 1 1/2 inches. Looked like a flying potato.
