It is just the shiny particle effect with a high reflective(?) property.
It shouldn't mean there is literally space inside the 3D modeled pet, because that would be pointless if you were to build a pet with a brain, or room sized open area for no reason. So I'm sure there's no particular reason for this. No need for conspiracy theories either ;)
