All engis seem to be using the shield + pistol combo which makes the engi weapons pretty useless because you can get higher damage + DPS with the combo. Making the engi weapons stronger or making a shield less powerful may help even the classes out

I think a better option is to turn all class specific weapons into AoE based weapons with different degrees of effectiveness. The mando one is already there. The engi one could be AoE lightning with less damage. The duel pistols could have a chance of firing extra random shots (think burst) into the group of mobs. For single target, people would use one hand + shield. For Group farming runs, the class specific would finally have a great use.
