The lack of a background is not working out well..... It makes things more difficult..... I guess I will be the the first to publicly "veto" the lack of a background... Maybe there can be some sort of toggle option.........

I am just coming from a player's standpoint..... It just seems that the lack of a background is a major design flaw.... Doesn't sensibly fit in.... Just my personal opinion, no disrespect......

EDIT: I understand now, you're referring to the background behind the character's icon and health/mana bars on the top left corner.
I love it without it, it looks more slick and you can see what's going on in that corner. It's probably just a matter of getting used to it, give it a few days.

Why does it not fit in? There's no square behind the potions or the skills either.

Not a fan of the minimalist look if it still responds to touches as if the border is still there.
