I need to buy a hair dryer. Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for in a hair dryer? Are there new technologies or different types? Help a clueless guy out.

A hair dryer? First of all, you need one which has a lot of options, like power setting etc. Don't get one which has one setting, pick one which has 3 different settings. You might not know the company, but a company like Philips make a good hair dryer. It has many different options, including power etc.
Don't necessarily go for the more expensive option, because it might not have what you want in one.

Edit: go for a brand which is known for their hair dryers. I don't know if they actually make hair dryers, but you could check out Babyliss. They make hair cutters so they should make dryers. Check with their website at www.Babyliss.com

Wet hair, get in car, open window, drive car, hang head out of window, combing is optional.

Hope that helps.

I now understand the Single part in your name :)

SO KIDDING!!!!
Love the Dryer, but I would so be the buried corpse formally known as FluffNStuff if I got her that!

Anyway, ended up getting one off of Amazon that her friend has. That way, if she does not like it, NOT MY FAULT :)
