They aren't getting stats from that shield, it's just a vanity shield...
Although it is still a bug

It would usually just hide the Rifle and just show the blastshield due to a rifle taking over both slots :)

Well, it's not *a* bug, so much as it's *several* bugs. This happens when an item is not set properly to show with other items. So, it's not a single, overall (macro) fix for all issues that are similar to this. Rather, it's a (micro) fix that needs to be done for any item that has the issue.
The best thing to do whenever you see these, Surfy, is to post as you've just done complete with the two items in question (if possible.)
