I'm curious about this staff I found that required Dexterity. I'm an elf, see.
My brother, the gamer of the household, has advised me to up my Intelligence soley, and I'm pretty sure that's supposed to be the Mage's forte.
Are there people who make their characters master other things?

Yes, your character can harness any weapon. As long as you have enough base stats, you can use a weapon. However, you cannot learn the same skills as a birdnor bear can, vice versa. You may find that being pure INT is best for someone on their first character.

Yes go pure int, as it is the best for someone new. Later in when you learn more of the game, mess with the other stats. Right now being a nuke (pure int Mage) is the best way to go for you.

I also advise you not to go into pvp until later, when you're around lvl55 or so.

No they don't, if you make a pure str it would givethe bear way more armor and that's what str all about + if you make a str/dex it's not gonna give a lot of damage that would worth more than the armor that you get from pure str.

But the hit% will be terrible. I agree that going pure str can make you the best tank with lots of armour and dodge, but without dealing enough damage, how can the bear keep the mobs' attention? And, it's really boring when the mobs always dodge your attacks.

My bear is lvl 65 ,yes the hit is not that good its 71 but using the mace I have 238-313 damage and to keep mobs hitting me I use the taunt skill, you have to look at each skill and read what it does and see what's the best gear to make your bear better and to make you useful in pve

You know even a bird doesn't have a 238-313 damage with his bow or crossbow :D
