View Full Version : Possibly my FINAL Regina Spektor art piece; my first full-scale painting

By now, you guys should know that I'm very fond of Regina Spektor and her music. Hell, I even have a PL char. named ReginaSpektor ;) I've spent A LOT of time after tallying up how many hours I spent per piece, but this one takes the cake. I spent a whopping two days on this one. It was such a long task that I even stopped in between for a break to paint Brooke aka LadyLove (yes, I take a break from art with more art haha). I finished this not even a half hour ago, and this totals to my Seventh Regina piece, so I feel that I need to end the series and explore other people to recreate (it's not you Regina, it's me!) This is my first full scale painting, as I put as much effort as my abilities could permit in terms of painting (I've always sucked at it, I started digitally a few days ago, Painting not Illustrating) on both the main object of attention, Regina, and the rest of the painting. Usually it's just the person I'm drawing, with a improvised background created in seconds.

Inspired by the music video for her song Eet, here it is!

For the best visual results, as with any painting, take a few steps back before observing the piece

Wow your artwork is so concise, detailed, resolved, and shaded wonderfully. You have a lovely talent you should be very proud of yourself!
PS: The girl seems to pop-out when you take a few steps back. Neat!

Thank you very much! My fundamentals of drawing professor taught us to observe work from afar. Looking at a piece up close makes you focus on the little details instead of seeing it as a whole. Everything's looks more blended in that way too

"The Persistance of Memory" :). It reminds you of that particular painting because my painting is in the dessert, the sky is the same color scheme, basically everythig else is too :) idk if it was intentional of the video director, but that just makes the video even color :) thanks for pointing that out man!

@Red, Thats it! Lol I always liked that painting.

Love it, looks fantastic. I like what you did with the depth in the picture.
Can I make a critique? There seems to be almost TOO MUCH depth on the trees. And by that I mean they're almost too blurred.
I'll be honest and say I didn't read every post and maybe this is what you were going for.
But from the first view, the size of the trees would make them seem like they're not terribly far away, and the out-of-focus depth you've done to them, while correct, seems too much for their focal range.

But hey, your work, your vision. Just something I thought I'd point out :)

Oh no I agree with you, I just sucked at the trees haha. Basically, they were the last thing I did so I sorta rushed them to get the pic done quickly haha. They should still be on their own layer, if so I could go back and fix them. If not, i won't even bother :/

They could use a little more definition, or you can take this and use it towards your next full scale painting.

I was going to sign up to DeviantArt just to see your gory pieces haha, alslways been a fan of the site, just never joined up as my art skills are no longer in existence! Haa

Sorry to rebump but, I have Art Rage on my computer as well (I only opened it once, and that was after installing it lol) :),
I always preferred Corel or PS as my main mediums for digital art. How does artrage compare to them?
hit me back with a pm if you wish to! im using tapatalk and im too lazy to browse to the pm section lol

Cheers!

Idk how it fairs on the pc, since I only bought ArtRage for iPad. I haven't used it in a really long time either haha. I can never stick with one art app, I always find something more convenient. But this is hands down the best painting app for digital pieces that won't look digital. On a pc, I think photoshop will always take the cake. If they made a tablet app for PS, I'd shell out any amount of $$$ for it

Cool, thx for that!, guess I'll stick with ps :), I think Adobe has a few apps out on the android market. Each one, sadly, costs $10+, they have an art app aswell, but its still nothing compared to sketchbook pro.

I stopped using sketchbook pro ages ago, around when I discovered ArtRage lol. Now I really only use sketchclub. It's where I make all my art videos.

:(, its the only "good" art app for androids in the market at the moment. but with only 6 layers, not much you can do. bahh I need to get an iPad :P

Turning off the high quality canvas (w.e it's called on SB) should grant you 12 layers. I have 12 on my phone/ipad
