It really depends on ur style of play
There are three type of skill builds for the engi
Support builds
Damage builds
Balance builds

Star Legends is team-oriented. It'll be difficult to level up and not die without decent teamwork.

imo every engi should have
Rev
empathy
transference
decay
leach
wither
protection/force -keep in mind protection only reduces maybe 2-3 damage at lvl 35-40
pain

i agree, other than protection. good engis shouldn't need them to keep the groups health up; using empathy and trans at the proper time should be enough imo, leaving you extra skill points to put towards:
- for a damage/hybrid build, sonic boom, maxing out DoTs (if they weren't)
- for a support type, suppression (can be very helpful when used at the right times), maxing out force shield (only if you are going to stay away from the front lines).
i go for a hybrid build, so i like to maximize any damage output i can while keeping the my healing skills maxed. i stay in the front lines too, so force shield doesn't last longer than a second or two for me.
the build i use is linked in my sig, good luck deciding

I think its better to maximize the defense- and heal skills. Keeping your party alive allows you to stand back and support the commandos (even if they need revive).
