View Full Version : AMOLED displays/Droid Razr screen

I recently got a Droid Razr from an insurance claim, and the screen had (mainly in dark lighting and on dark colored screens) black stains on it? It basically had black drips streaking down the side of the screen. I sent that Droid Razr in to receive another since even the workers at Verizon claimed it was defective. Long story short, I am now on my third Droid Razr and it has the same problem. I'm currently trying to get a different phone than the Razr. I'm wondering, is this a known problem with the Droid Razr or AMOLED displays? Does anyone with either of the 2 experience a problem similar on their screen when in environments with little or no lighting and/or a dark screen?

Also, just to add, all three phones had the black "stains" on different parts of the screen in different ways. The first was like paint dripping down, the second was like a kid scribbled on it with a crayon, and the third was almost like paint splatters. Seems odd to me, just wanted to check if anyone else has something similar.

Thanks!

I <3 Google.

Looks like Motorola made up some crap about it being the AMOLED screens, but really the screens are generally fine on other phones, just the Razer having problems.

Was hoping you or Attack would know:p Thanks bro. Now just to get the whole mess sorted out with the insurance company lol.

Edit:

Any idea if it is all the phones? Or just some of them that have the problem?

Must be just some. Might be the gorilla glass they us? It wouldn't be the display I wouldn't think cuz that's a separate screen underneath the touch screen glass. I've had 2 and neither have had what you're describing. My problem is the touch screen just stops working & have to power reset it completely when it does.

I'm extremely disappointed with the phone over all. It's extremely fast but my Droid x was better to play PL on. I wanted to get a Nexus but they won't let me switch over :(

I'm trying to get the Nexus as well. They keep trying to throw a fourth Razr on us, but we won't take it. Hoping they'll send me a Nexus soon considering I'm currently without a phone. Really disappointed as well:/

Thank you for the heads up! Looking into a new phone for my wife for her birthday and I needed to know this. I currently use a DroidX and love it. I was looking into the Razor as I figired it would be an updated version of my phone. I have heard great things about the Galaxy and may go that direction instead.

I have the Nexus and it has the super AMOLED screen. I don't have any issues with the picture...in fact the image quality rivals the chrome browser version...maybe even better. However, the screen gets very hot and sometimes it's hard to move because the hotness makes it feel almost...sticky...like it has one of those expensive military grade screen covers.

I know two people that have the razr and neither one have the screen problem you described. I recently did have some problems with my Droid x2 and after Verizon sent me two defective phones (2nd wouldn't even turn on) I finally factory reset my current phone and it fixed it.
