DPS is damage per second.

Let's say you have 100 Damage and 150 DPS. That means in 2 seconds you will do 300 Damage.

Not a detailed explanation, but maybe it helps.

DMG shows how much damage you make from regular attack, also damage dealt from your skills based only on your DMG
DPS = DMG * attack speed of your weapon (daggers usually have 1,7-1,8 attacks per sec; bows, aegises, swords, guns - 1,1-1,2; staffs around 1,3; depends on exact weapon)
note: bows and guns dealing double damage from regular attacks (it isn't showed anywhere, just in case you wonder why gun/bow attacks deal more damage than daggers/staffs by usual attacks)

shortly: dps is useless stat, focus on dmg

DPS is Damage for second, which is by basic attacks I believe. Dps CAUSED of course changes depending on the situation, like armour of what you are attacking, buffs, debbufs and so on.

Damage is what determines your skills damage also has a role in DPS of course.
