If you're in a dungeon and you start before having a full inv then you can still gain items until the end of the line. Example: Gluttony has 49/50 items in inventory and he creates a map AO3 Crush the Keeper, I can run that map and get every drop added to my inventory all the way up to OL if I wanted really. When I go back to town my inv may be somewhere in the realm of 90/50 (rough estimate).
