Hey everyone, glad to be back! To kick off our season of contest I'll be hosting a humania set design contest! Again all of this is only possible because of our good friend Evolt and make sure to thank him for all of this:D


Requirements

To qualify for this contest you will need to design a set for the upcoming release of Humania.(Will not be in humania, just for fun)

The design needs to include the class and an item description. Design the armor as you see fit with your own color scheme and texture. The design can be drawn up or done on your computer, Ipod, Ipad, or anyother drawing device.

MAKE SURE TO ADD SET BONUS TO YOUR PICTURE!

PLEASE NOTE: The smoke that was used in the photo was not originally mine. I simply used the internet for smoke photographs. I do no own that photo but I used it to portray the basic idea of the set bonus.

Also note: I did not add the smoke from the robes in the wand version because it interfered with the details with the helmet (as you can tell it did with the staff version).

Overview
Upon discovering a site with humans, one of the first things the Alterran heroes notice is that humans don't have special abilities. They don't have the strength of a bear, the reflexes of a bird, or the magical prowess of an elf. What they did have though, was their creativity, especially the legends and tales of mythical beings (very similar to our heroes). Some of these stories were from generations ago, but they still struck true to the adventures of our heroes. A more modern mythology was the superhero genre, people who fought for the well being of others. The whole idea of bringing justice to criminals and monsters was very similar to what our heroes were already doing. Why not have more fun by dressing up in spiffy costumes and having a new identity for this new situation?

When you post, click "advanced options", which should come up the bottom right of the "post"box.

Then, click "manage attachments". Find you photo using the "upload" feature. Drag and drop the photo thumbnail into the bar at the bottom of the window that comes up.

Once you have it dragged, press "set inline". Then you can close that window and you will have a quotation like "(pic.img)".

I did this exclusively on my iPad for some fun and I'm semi-pleased with the results. I did use a picture from a site to template the whole thing, however so I will post the link when I find the site again. Description:

The Human are a physically weak race, and might not look like much from the outside. However, they more than make up for this weakness by being clever and sly, often inventing the next new designs in the weapon and armor markets. Some of their inventions are a far cry from being practical, but for every failure, two breakthroughs are made. The Humen set showcases this occasionally silliness, with scoped melee weapons and more. But once you begin to obliterate all bad guys in sight, you won't think about that at all. Hey, that rhymed! :p

Well there you have it. The Humen set for strength. Expect dex and int sets in the days to come.



P.S. As I said, I drew the whole thing with an iPad, so of course it's horrible in comparison to everything else. :p

I'd argue with that. Procreate (don't laugh) is one of the best drawing/painting apps in existence, and they recently had a huge update!

Also, you may want to invest in a stylus for easier drawing. You can make one yourself with a scotch brite sponge :D (don't use the rough part, and don't get them wet or it will stop working).

The way I saw Humania was the humans going against all of the monsters, so the gear should appear to have come from the carcasses of their fallen enemies :p as a sort of trophy and form of mockery, by wearing their enemies comrades.

UPDATE (17th of may 2012): Made sure my contribution meets contest format rules.
UPDATE (5th of may 2012): at the bottom of this post I've added an impression on how these loose concept parts should look combined.

So here is my contribution, it consist of 6 pieces of concept art I created today. It took me over 6 hours to make on my iPad1, so I hope at least a few will like :) I choose 'concept art', because STS can't really program too much detail in their models and the player's minds make up their own creation after seeing concept art. Besides, I liked trying this way of drawing, never did it before. The program I used doesn't have any layers, so you got to do it right the first time.

Ok, now on with my design; I think a new set design should be in line with the Humania surroundings; desert meets coastal waters. Since I'm an Archer, I choose to make an Archer set. Not a bow-set, because we've seen those. No, this is basicly a 'talon' set, except no talons but small darts.


Colors
First let me focus on color use. I think the color red has had it's days now, like I say in-game: 'people, red is out of fashion, blue is the new red' :pirate: But serious, red should go. That's why I thought Yellow (sand) meets Blue (water) and if you mix 'em you get Green. If you split these 3-ways, each race gets its own two color combination. Archers are Green/Blue, Mages are Blue/Yellow, Bears are Yellow/Green. This picture below explains:

Level 71 Elite Vanity
To get more inspired, I decided to make a new vanity item, which players can earn by reaching level 71. It's a scarf you can wear agains desert heat and it makes you less visible, hence you get more dodge (or maybe a reduction in Hit% from mobs?). The colors used are compatible with new Humania colors and the current vanity bonus-set.

Ok, now on to the set I've designed for this contest. Each item has it's own concept art with description and bonus.


Cartilage Crossbow
The Cartilage Crossbow is made from half-a-jaw of a shark, which infest the waters surrounding Humania. Sharks don't have a bone skeletton, but one from Cartilage, a flexibel but strong material. Because it's flexible, the Archer is able to span the bow's string between the ends of the Shark's jaw. For arrows the Archer uses the poisoned darts from Sea Urchins. You know, those black underwater prickly balls of stings. These darts sometimes give a root-bonus!

Sea Star Wing
If you reach the bottom of the reefs surrounding Humania, without getting a bite, you can find these thick Sea Stars that the Archer can use as a wing. Once above water they don't immediately die, so they stay alive, stuck on the Archer's arm. The arms of the Sea Star can roll together to absorb energy blasts from mage weaponry or bounce bear swords. I don't expect STS to program this effect :tranquillity:

Shark Skin Leather
Sharks have a very tough skin, made from sturdy scales. This makes perfect usage for a Leather robe. It takes a lot of time to make these Leathers, so drop rate should be very low. Part of these Leathers is a necklace with a big Shark Tooth.

Shark Head Hood
After using most of the sharks skin, the Archer is left with the head. This makes a great Hood, plus it makes the Archer look even more fierce. Mobs and PVP opponents will tremble :livid:

Hi! my name (on PL) is Oachiab and I decided to make my own set to enter into the competition. It is a three piece set with a sort of camo design that is colored blue and black. I designed it to glow dark blue when it is worn. Also there is a small little emblem which is two serpents twisting around each other. It is colored red and is on every piece of the set. It is made to raise all your stats even if you own the L65 longbow crafted Chiropetera set. It is sort of an island/sea based set that is completed with shark teeth lining the longbow and the helm. These are the pieces names:
Shark King's Longbow of the Sea (210-255 damge, 0.9 speed, 27 dex, 8% hit and crit, 6 H/s, 6 M/s, 10 armor) Shark King's Leather of the Sea (27 dex, 8% hit and crit, 6 H/s, 6 M/s, 16 damage, 71 armor)
Shark King's Sea Helm (27 dex, 8% hit and crit, 6 H/s, 6 M/s, 16 damage, 47 armor)
LOL I guess it's ok. Please feel free to give me tips like... tell me if it is too over powered, if there are better names, or of course support me! ^_^

I don't know where you live NmyxSpaceship, to give us an exact time deadline, but since I'm in Europe I'll just count with Pacific Time (9 hours earlier from where I am). Forgive me for my being late. I will have the results up tomorrow I hope. I have one of the busiest lives right now being the end of the year then highschool next year but dont worry.
