I opened 100 grand cakes last year and got 10000 tokens but I have 28 tokens right now from last year. Here is video proof I opened grands last year. I have bought 100 grands over the past years and had 10000 tokens in the next year's bday event.

Tokens are cleared when cooldown from the event ends, just like most other events.
That's what the cooldown is for generally - spending your tokens before they go away.

I can’t believe they had to go over this.. you really thought you could keep tokens from last year just a legit question? Or I must be reading this wrong, I wasn’t here for last years bday event so

In the recent bday events I was able to open 100 grands get 10k tokens and still have those tokens in the next year bday event.

I guess they did start removing tokens but I don'r know where I got 28 tokens from because I have not opened a single cake and as soon as I logged on I went to the vendor to buy the jellyfish to find out 9972 tokens are gone.

No, I'm pretty sure they have cleared bday tokens for at least the last two bdays.
They clear after the cooldown period, so if you opened after that, I do not believe they recleared at the beginning of the event. So depending on when you opened cakes, you might have some tokens.
They cleared 2 years ago, because I had some extra tokens also. They were gone when bday event started last year. However, I had some toons with some loose tokens, opened sometime during the year. Those tokens were still there. However, it was just some random tokens, so not enough to matter.

The tokens granted from opening cakes after the cooldown registers for the next Bday.
Just realized this after intentionally opening cakes after the cooldown, with the intention to see if it would register for the next event. Atleast I no longer wonder where those tokens were coming from every Bday.

A smart person wouldve kept the cakes instead and opened them the year after, not before the event ends just to have them sit (unseen) in your satchel
