Simple fix for the "I can't play with my friends" problem. Make it so you can play with your friends, and not have to spend energy, but as a result, you only receive gold drops. No item drops or quest rewards. Obviously, also make an option where you do in fact spend energy, and receive the full rewards of doing the quest.
Sidenote: Lower energy timer. Random chance to get more energy (that could possibly be of no value if you have full E), is not a legitimate solution to the energy shortage. Its not "more energy" its a "chance for more energy". They are two completely different things. Also, your reasoning for the "necessity" for the energy mechanic would be nice, to see if you have an actual reasoning besides $$$.
