Hi all,

Are you one of us poor iOS users longing for some DL action on your shiny iDevice, and don't want to wait weeks before Apple decides they might approve the app? Can't you bring yourself to play it on the awkward keyboard controls that the Chrome version is currently offering? If the answer is yes, I might have a temporary solution for you :D

Note that it's not perfect, but it's IMO way better than those crappy Chrome controls, and it definitely makes the game very playable on basically any iDevice.

Let me start by showing you a picture of DL running on the latest iPad (3? new iPad? retina iPad? whatever)...

For all of you who still doubt, I recorded a video. Please keep in mind this was my very first time I tried playing it on my iPad like this, and I was sitting in a rather awkward position to try and capture the action on video. So please don't tell me I suck, cause I know that already LOL :D

So yeah, as you probably already noted in the video above, there was no Joystick on screen, but all touch controls were fully functional. The video isn't of a very high quality either, but I can assure you the graphics look great on the iPad and the gameplay (fps/graphics/audio) is pretty smooth itself too.

So, how can you do this?

There's a tool called 'Splashtop Remote Desktop' for iDevices (iPod, iPhone, iPad), that allows you to 'stream' your PC/MAC desktop to your iDevices. It also streams audio in the process, all this while keeping a fairly high framerate. It allows you to stream anything you see on your desktop to your iDevice. It also registers all touches on your screen as a mouseclick on that exact place you're touching it (as compared to having to drag your mouse as in some other remote desktop apps). As said already, the big difference with other remote destop apps is that this apps actually streams video and audio at a decent fps. You could even lower the quality to make it look smoother, at the price of picture sharpness. In the recorded video it was set to high quality, streaming off a 1024*768 desktop (didn't really try higher resolutions cause my graphics card can't handle the 2048*1536 native resolution of the new iPad anyway).

Note that this app is NOT FREE (and no, I'm not working for them LOL). Please also note that the app is NOT universal, meaning that you would have to buy it twice if you want to use it both on your iPhone/iPod and iPad. In Europe the pricing is €1.59 for iPhone/iPod, and €3.99 for the iPad version.

So basically, I was just running Dark Legends in full screen via the Chrome browser. All functionality like accessing menu's, chatting, playing... 'simply works' (no Apple pun intended) that way. As said in the introduction, it's not perfect, because you're missing a joystick. So it's tap-to-run. Other than that, it plays better than I expected and graphics and gameplay is definitely enjoyable that way. That was also the reason I rushed to make this post, so all of you on iDevices who can live with tap-to-run and are willing to spend a few $$, can get it playable on your iDevice today.

Here's a final (grainy) picture of my desktop/iPad setup for your viewing pleasure...

As always, decent feedback is much appreciated :)

mm, not sure why this post isn't showing up in DL general discussion at all, or under new posts for that matter :/

Just trying to bump it into visibility here...

It's showing up :)

A post you make won't show in new posts, because it's not new to you. Once someone replies to it, then it will show for you in new posts.

Why don't you wait until the iOS version in a couple of weeks? That way you can get the app for free. Even if Dark Legends takes a while to get approved, it is free.

Edit: I know that it is an alternative, but some people might not like to spend money, and the game when released will be free. Besides, Apple might be reviewing Dark Legends right now :)

People like me, who have no problem buying plat won't mind the tiny amount you'd have to spend on this app to get it playable right now.

But I agree, from your standpoint as a non-plat buyer €1.59 or €3.99 could be seen as a more than you can/want to spend on DL :)

Edit: and thanks for the info Sam (forum noob here lol)

Edit 2:
Apple might be reviewing Dark Legends right now :)

Knowing Apple it's not going to be very soon. And what if they find something they don't like? It might as well take a month+ before us iOS users get our hands on it and need to start playing while all our friend already reached lvl cap. I'd rather play now and hang out with my friends instead of being all behind trying to play catch-up, as it was the case with SL :)

Edit: oops, meant to edit post lol

Thx! Even if it would only help 1 or 2 players get their iDevice fix, I'm a happy man :)

Note that you still need access to chrome on a PC/Mac. You probably understood that, but I wasn't sure reading your post :)

I guess the price of the app isn't very expensive, however, Jaytb is right. When iOS users get the game, android and chrome users are at cap. iOS launch is due for about two weeks or so, and if they find something they don't like, they need to resend it back, they correct it then submit the app again.

Try Logmein.

I tried both but feel the connectivity is better than splash. =)

Try Teamviewer. It is another free alternative. Download the client on your pc and device.

Having tried Teamviewer 7, I think that it has potential, but i dont think it will be as good as your alternative. The game doesnt run very smoothly in my opinion, but it is free, so check it out if you want to try.

i dont get the point of all this

The point is, being able to play with touch controls on your iOS device if you don't have an Android device or can't get used to the, IMO, awkward keyboard controls that chrome offers.

Thank you for this :) I won't be using it for DL, as I already got my curiosity satisfied at Lv 10, but to run photoshop

It would be awesome if you could edit chrome keyboard controls, but I don't think there is a way to do that.
