The PL Wealth Gap
The reason new players quit so fast

First let me start off by saying that I don't care that this exists. It will in no way affect how I play the game if it is dealt with, or left alone. The wealth gap in this game is massive. I don't want those who play the game religiously to think I am advocating they get punished for doing so. The reality of the situation is that people who play year round, and have experienced the instability of our game's economy, should be able to understand what I am about to say.

Anyone who plays the game daily, especially lately, has seen the influx of begging and beggars in town. Here is your reason why.

The wealth gap is created by a multitude of things. Anyone that is currently playing has no doubt seen the massive increase in prices during this winter's event. Price inflation is astronomical. Prices of items change by the hour. That is the nature of a gold event as big as grotto. However, only the dedicated players played through the grotto 1000+ times during the event. Even though the place is accessible to lower levels, it is almost impossible to drop anything good because you can't adequately destroy killjoy, and you have no luck or re-roll multipliers. Whereas people who already have the gear, the luck, the GL, the GOLD, to do so, profit handsomely.

The issue with this is that during these events, the rich get richer, and the poor, well, they get negligibly richer comparatively. The gap grows.

I am in no way telling people how to play the game, but to those that PvE and/or Merch exclusively, you are somewhat part of the problem.

You see, if we are to experience any economic stability, the people making money, have to be spending money. However, they aren't.

At this point in writing this, I'm not EXACTLY sure where I am going with this.

However, what I do know is that there HAS to be something done in the realm of these particular issues:

CS Pricing
Gold Cap (and it's affects)
Incredibly rare items and their prices/demand
Seasonal players
Veteran Players
Poor players
Finally, why in God's name am I being ask for 10k every three seconds of gametime in pm's

I just wonder what the community has to say about this, it should at least be a more popular topic of discussion. I am in no way socialist, blah blah blah, I just wonder if people think it's a bad thing, a good thing, something that doesn't matter, etc. Drop your opinions.

Play any game 10 years later and see how big of a difference from day 1 acc to a 10 year acc. Play any rpg on the planet and start today. You will be left in the dust and be discouraged. If you really want to see this in everyday life, go to the gym. Sign up right now and compare yourself to a 10 year veteran from that gym. It is what it is, you win some and you lose some.

I was just curious ... how you would advise a brand new PL player to start ?

A) wait for an event and leech the hell out of it.

B) beg uncontrollably for everything.

C) look for old PL accounts for sale on eBay.

D) all of the above.

A) wait for an event and leech the hell out of it.

I mean events are by far the easiest way, I originally started around an event time but it’s even easier to make money now, with the sellable xp packs, I just started playing again recently(I gave away a lot of my gold and stuff when I quit so I only had ~2 mil coming back)
But I made an easy 20 mil+ and still have xp packs to spare

No one should start any mmo that’s a decade old and expect to quickly catch up to the wealth of someone that’s put in 1000s of hours playing.
It’s always going to be unfair.

Events and new level caps are basic safeguards to balance this inequality, to reward people who still play and who just started in the case of events, and making old endgame gear more or less obsolete and everyone farming for new gear “levels the playing field” when a new level cap arrives.

A is the only option. I tried to play this game from a new players perspective, with the exception of the knowledge I've obtained from 10 years of playing this. What i concluded is that it's impossible to progress this game naturally. Leveling is harder now that the old campaigns have zero use. Not only is there no point to run any of the maps from 1 to 95, but the main community guilds such as H4H, V for Vendetta and the others are either no longer active or rarely plays.

Even then wealth is still the center of progress. The old campaigns have no significant items that people buy since PvP is dead overall. What sucks is that when hahahabirdy started that idea for a 56 sewer tournament we saw so much activity in sewers. Sewer items were starting to sell for prices we haven't seen since 56 was active. Hell sewer items were selling. That is what was remarkable.

Best thing a new player can do is wait until PL2 is here imo.

The insistent begging needs to end, someone please fix it, it's insufferable.

For new players events are the way foreword as Tarlan mentioned. I went from lv 80 to 110 in this last winter event and made money with the xp drops. In fact I would make events more inviting for new players when possible such as, in the last winter event you needed a full team to play, I'd eliminate that so new ppl can play and benifit as well as end gamers.

If ppl make videos like beg to get rich then obviously some players would follow that and made that beg spam worse instead they shoulda make how to do stuff the real way (informative videos)

For the topic, nice topic about pixel wealth but if any one really in that path, vivapinata really explained it well.

HOWEVER, what actually need is the better and easier ways for new players to get to basic like a decent pet, endgame gears, stat sets etc I'd consider having wealth and easier platform for new comers two different things. Thats what messed up here :D

Again you (OP) talked about CS pricing, gold cap but didn't explain anything about how that would impact it. More like those are there for making life easier not creating any gap.

Go check out my post in suggestions and maybe I addressed some of it. I don't expect new players in a game this old, but they shouldn't be so left for dead.

When I said, they should be left? rather even past and also in my post here I suggested to make the game more easier for new comers although if ur bringing the point of new comers get rich (Wealthy what u say comparable with wealthy PL-ers) easily then ur just ruining the life of the all genuine hard core merchers and hard core grinders, who would definitely feel left over and betrayed, Im not one though.

They could always add a set of quested gear like the L50 cyber and mystery sets
And/or bring back daily quests to craft/upgrade endgame sets
Could even add quests for sets to old campaigns, I know nuris through bsm are a big wall to campaign progression if you are actually the recommended levels, mainly due to rarely having any teammates let alone a full party, but the drop rates on decent gear is pretty bad for most of the areas

85 was still during a time when you could make money from just playing the game. In 85 cap you were selling L.35 Voodoo wands 500k each still. Level 100-105 is when the wealth disparities started. If you start from scratch right now you'll see what we mean.

Perfect example is myself. I was banned from this game at the end of 2016 heading into 2017. This was 80 cap. When i came back i could still easily obtain wealth from farming and selling farmable items. Capping was no biggy especially with Latko being introduced. Farming 85 was easy which made PvE even more profitable.

However when Elites was introduced along with enchantments it killed off 50+. With nobody PvPing in 50, 51, 56, 61, 66, and 71 there became no point in farming/crafting sets that use to be high in demand. 35 was still active so prices increased greatly there. That also was ruined by the introduction of Enchants + elites.

The meta revolves strictly around items that can't be obtained naturally AND only can be farmed once every year. This is very unhealthy.
